Summary
Bloomsbury presents The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, read by Daniel York Loh.
Read the award-winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million-copy-selling science-fiction phenomenon – soon to be a Netflix Original Series from the creators of Game of Thrones.
1967: Ye Wenjie witnesses Red Guards beat her father to death during China's Cultural Revolution. This singular event will shape not only the rest of her life but also the future of mankind.
Four decades later, Beijing police ask nanotech engineer Wang Miao to infiltrate a secretive cabal of scientists after a spate of inexplicable suicides. Wang's investigation will lead him to a mysterious online game and immerse him in a virtual world ruled by the intractable and unpredictable interaction of its three suns.
This is the Three-Body Problem and it is the key to everything: the key to the scientists' deaths, the key to a conspiracy that spans light-years and the key to the extinction-level threat humanity now faces.

Top notch hard scifi
If real scientific (mostly physics) references turn you on, not off, then this is for you. I lack a science degree but loved this. It feels thoroughly original, which is rare and wonderful. It deserves a more experienced narrator, but this guy gets the job done.

Rehydrate!
Excellent voicework & thought provoking science fiction. I recommend going into this blind but it poses some very interesting questions on humanity, the rise & fall of civilsations, science and extraterrestrial life.

Bit above my level
Overall interesting and compelling story but I could feel my mind giving up when the book delved into quantum physics... which it often does!
Saying that the author definitely made great attempts to make it more understandable but much of it went right over my head.

Staggering and penetrative
Popular science speculation, extrapolated to thrillingly dizzying scales with enlivening historical context, blended to weave a rich and compelling tapestry.
Truly inspirational

You could feel it was written in another culture/language
Points sometimes laboured, due to the language and culture the book was written in. Just go with it tho. I did smile at the use of the protons. v.good.🧐

Noticeably different to the TV series, in many ways better
I started this before the Netflix tv series was released but paused to watch the series before finishing the audiobook. I’m not sure whether that was a good or bad thing! The TV series I thought was excellent but was different in many ways. I found it took a little adjusting to get back to the characters in the book and the differences in both their nationality and relationships (or lack of), but it was far better at explaining the reasons behind the decisions taken by the ‘aliens’ to take the approach they did. It is also far better at explaining the scientific rational, I admit I am no physicist so they might well be wildly inaccurate. There were a number of things that happened towards the end of the TV series that were not in the book, I am making an assumption either they are in the second book or there is a divergence between the two?
I digress, excellent book that is well narrated. I am glad I have found an old school sci-story that thinks big. Now do I get the second book or if anyone has any suggestions they would be most appreciated?
