About this listen
Dee Kwan’s secrets for a happy life:
- Always remain positive, no matter the cost
- Realize that every setback is a hidden opportunity
- Accept compliments graciously, especially when given by mega-hot rivals
- Never, ever question whether any of these mantras actually work
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.)
Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and prickly estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too...and Teddy is nothing like the man she thought she knew.
Before she can cry foul, Teddy comes clean about his double life: He’s the heir to the CEO, and he needs her help to make Celeste a better place—for everyone. But that means taking down the old guard—including his father—intent on standing in their way. Now in the center of a dizzying corporate coup, Dee is forced to decide whether she’s ready to stop watching the world through rose-colored glasses and instead face the truth: about herself, about her feelings for Teddy, and about what she’s willing to do to truly make a difference.

Lighthearted and unusual theme
I really enjoyed this I liked the gentle self deprecation and the humour throughout the book was gently poking fun at the characters An easy satisfying read

Mental Growth through romance
The characters develop and change at a fair pace through their honest interactions with each other. These stories feel like intimate insights into women who have found themselves and a man along the way not because of.

Dumb just for the plot
Love how the story starts with the MCs meeting for their sharp thinking and knowledge but both had to become irrational and dumb for the sake of the plot to make them fail before the happy ending

Hypercritical protagonist projects failings onto love interest
The writing in this book is good, funny mostly and easy to listen to…. except that our hero falls for someone they’re mostly met on a kind of wordle type treasure hunt, meets them in real life, them likes them more.
Our hero has lost her job, puts up with her family who have moved into her small house as she wants to keep the peace. Gets a new job, refuses to rock the boat as she wants to climb the corporate ladder.
Meets boy on a meeting, he is quiet and detached. Immediately dislikes him for not wanting to rock the boat and accuses him of wanting to climb the corporate ladder.
He says he is trying to keep the peace with his dad, and is scolded for doing the same thing our hero does.
Stopped listening at that point as the hypocrisy was getting worse.

Best romcom ever
Who didn’t love a little family dysfunction along with a toxic work environment? The narrator has a wonderfully creamy voice and excellent delivery. Highly recommended.

Not Bad, Not Great
The Celeste storyline could have stood to be a good deal shorter than it was to allow more time for romance.
The narrator can't pronounce French for toffee, please someone get her a coach before she tackles this again. Also Parisian should never rhyme with friesian, a French coach could help with that too (hint it's the Anglicised spelling of Parisienne and pronounced pretty much the same)
