Summary

The Swim is not one of my usual mysteries featuring former police detective Michael McLaren. It's a prequel novella giving a picture of his life from teenager to the strong man he is today. He's real to me, and I want you to understand him. I want you to understand a man whose need to help others find justice became his incitement in a world like today. He's been through a lot from his ordeal beginning with the "swim", his move from the Force, and his cold cases. He's made enemies, friends, and he has loved and lost. Like many of us.

Brilliant!

This is the story I didn’t know I needed. I loved hearing about McLaren’s early days, and how he became the man he is now. The book is brilliantly written, and equally brilliantly narrated. I am in awe of Callum’s ability to let each character’s personality shine through in his narration. All his voices are wonderful, but the way he makes Charlie Harvester sound petty and mean is exceptional.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All the above opinions are my own.

Great prequel - filled in a lot of the gaps

This was so good, just loved it and had to keep listening to get to the end. It helped understand more about why McLaren left the police but also why he joined the police in the first place.
The narration is top class, he just brings all the characters to life and each one is different.

Essential for All McLaren Fans

If, like me, you're an ardent fan of the McLaren series then this is an essential prequel that adds an excellent background narrative to show exactly why he became the man he is today.

Starting as a teenager, this follows Mike's story up to the beginning of the main series.

Excellently narrated by Callum Hale once again and If I could give him a 6 I would.
