Summary

This is a hilarious novel by Bernadette Cooper, the founder of the all-girl band Klymaxx. She also narrates the audiobook. Bernadette is known for her empowerment of women in songs such as "Divas Need Love Too", "The Men All Pause", and "I Look Good". And her voice spearheads the rhythmic movement in the hit "Meeting in the Ladies Room". This tale continues her legacy, revealing how miracles sometimes happen when women unite in concert. This story portrays a typical dysfunctional family spearheaded by the clan's matriarch.

Meet Virginia Strokes, a proud White American who bathes in a tub of sarcasm filled with comedic insensitivity. She disdains almost anyone not of the Caucasian race and proudly displays the family crest of generational racism. As fate would have it, a brief stay in a rehabilitation facility, following unfortunate circumstances, leads Virginia into a world resembling everything she despises. Her respite guides her into an atmosphere that parallels the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, with residents from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual preferences. Through their stories, she travels back in time and visits the ghosts of their past. Their journey forces Virginia to confront her fears and face her demons.

Meanwhile, fighting off family members who relish in their inheritance and her possible demise, Virginia is changed when she meets the Spitfire, Mrs. Jean. Mrs. Jean, a Black woman, transforms Virginia's life for the better by teaching her, by example, the meaning of the two most powerful four-letter words in the universe: hope and love. In this satirical portrayal of ignorance and abandonment, Bernadette shines a humorous light on the otherwise serious subject matter of the human health-care industry. She focuses with a lens that zooms in on the virtues and shortcomings of nursing homes and the families who unpleasantly seek to take advantage of aging parents. Cooper has chosen to paint her picture through ridiculousness.
