Summary
Disappear into the world of the Sunday Times best-selling Chocolat....
Faith. Secret. Magic. Murder....
Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her youngest child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.
But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. Then the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie, and has a strange appeal of its own - seems to herald a change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

Wonderful tale
I struggled at times to work out which character was speaking but this didn’t detract from a thoroughly enjoyable story of witchery and chocolate!

Good to hear the completion of the Chocolat story with its familiar characters and strange mysticism.

Wonderful!
This was my first audiobook book & what a one to start my listening activities with. I was hooked from the start & my enthrallment grew with every passing chapter. JH is a master wordsmith, with a wizard of an imagination, both of which are enhanced by her narration. Thoroughly recommended.

Made me crave strawberry jam (straight from the jar)
As always, an impeccable storyline with intrigue and just a little magic. I love the way Joanne Harris doesn’t just tell a story, she weaves in the smells, the tastes and the temperature so that you are immersed in the book rather than just reading it.
Being read by the author is always a bonus. I think you understand the intent of the words better than someone who doesn’t know the text as intimately.

Wonderful
Joanne Harris has done it again, apparently this is the 4th in the Chocolat series but I must have missed the second and third. It didn’t seem to matter. This was a wonderful, clever story. I got totally wrapped up in the characters. Loved it. Only comment, sorry JH, but her voice is really annoying !

A story that gets under your skin
Joanne decided to do this audio book herself. On the one hand it’s intimate to hear the writer tell this story, on the other it’s a bit disappointing because she’s not a voice actor and this makes it difficult to recognize the caracters. But the stories, there are more than one as usual, are interesting, divers and heartbreaking. Unfortunately I did feel that tge book should have been at least 20 chapters longer and it felt a bit rushed. More background explanation on Morgane (even in hindsight) would have been nice, this would also have been helpful for Rosettes discovery at the end. She just seems to have come to a conclusion which enables her to express herself just like that, one memory of a story and that’s that, problem solved. No time is needed to adept to a new situation, it’s simply there and this feels like Joanne was very much done with her beloved characters. So no more Vianne, Anouk, Rosette and Roux. No more Bam or Pantoufle. No more chocolate. Such a shame.
