Wish I could have liked it more
The story could have been so good but it was all flat and 2 dimensional. I felt nothing for any of the characters, if anything I was annoyed at the lead character for being such a flake. There was no depth of emotion or build up of suspense, there was nothing to provide connection or empathy, it felt colourless like a script, rather than a descriptive novel. I'm going to watch the film next as I bet the directors did a great job injecting what I felt was missing.
I was also irritated by the lack of realism. I can't say too much without giving the plot away, but it had so many holes in it and I felt myself rolling my eyes more than once. And the author could do with thinking more about the language used as some of it didn't quite work "she tried to stay calm but she was shivering on the inside", and plenty more.
It's the author's debut novel, which seems like a good starting point and I wouldn't discount reading others once the writing matures a bit. I wanted to like it, but I struggled a bit. The plot is there, how the author managed to come up with so many twists and turns is impressive, it just needs more meat on the bones to make it a great read.

Enthralling
Okay this probably will not appeal to everyone, however if you're interested in an easy listen but still with plenty of twists and turns. Then I urge you to give it a listen. To many who don't or have never experienced domestic violence or control in a relationship, ( I am not referring to having experienced this myself) but have a good understanding of the topic covered. This is a very good eye opener to those that don't. It covered this matter in a very understanding and comprehensive way.. I don't think it is fair to give a bad review to this new author's work ( but obviously every person is entitled to their choice and opinions on what they choose to listen/read) Both the author and narrator made a very sensitive subject easy to digest, but by no means was this listen not enthralling. Packed with suspense, suspicion and family secrets a thriller that just keeps you guessing. I stayed up all night listening to this Audible book. Every time I thought I had sussed the plot, it changed. Maybe there will be comments like ' far fetched ' remember your reading or listening to a story, and that's what this is! Could this happen in real life - well indeed yes it's possible it could! I look forward to hearing more from Samantha Lee Howe! Give this one a go well worth missing a night's sleep 😴🙂

Not a Thriller. Or a Mystery!
Just the account of a woman relating her sexual encounters with the husband she hates & the lover she has on the side. Every single chapter is a sequence of how many times she has sex with each man, and how she feels after, and how she feels after her meds, blah blah blah. And her husband begging her to have sex & how she doesn't want to, and how she practically has EVERY luxury a woman could desire yet she's so unhappy and her husband is so controling just becoz he asks her to organize parties n some more fluff like that. I honestly had no idea what her problem is all along.
