About this listen

In a small Arizona town, a man counts his blessings: a loving wife, two teenage daughters, and a job that allows him to work at home. Then "The Store" announces plans to open a local outlet, which will surely finish off the small downtown shops. His concerns grow when "The Store's" builders ignore all the town's zoning laws during its construction. Then dead animals are found on "The Store's" grounds. Inside, customers are hounded by obnoxious sales people, and strange products appear on the shelves. Before long the town's remaining small shop owners disappear, and "The Store" spreads its influence to the city council and the police force, taking over the town! It's up to one man to confront "The Store's" mysterious owner and to save his community, his family, and his life!

Started strong but quickly lost it's way

I was interested to see where this story went and enjoyed the early chapters but then it just lost it's way. The build up was good and I enjoyed the early character development, but then the story became silly. By the end it just felt lazy and every action and reaction from the characters was totally unbelievable. Everything after learning that the store clerks wear leather underwear as part of their uniform (!?) was just ridiculous.

outrageously silly, outrageously entertaining

Some of the themes were pretty gruesome but there were also large amounts of black humour. This really was a very entertaining and well constructed horror drawing on many themes and fears brought about by capitalism forced onto helpless individuals and society.

A truly gripping listen

I worried this might be too similar to ‘needful things’ but I was pleasantly surprised! Little keeps you on the edge of your seat, a mystery around every corner. The characters are brilliant and Stifel delivers a great performance. Well worth it!

Creepy but a worthy storyline

Shades of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell. A captivating story with some disturbing moments, like the sickening recruitment process. Wasn't quite sure which way this would turn but enjoyed it all the same.

Great story ruined by narrator!.

I really enjoyed this story, I thought it clever ,and just a little scary. Unfortunately it was very difficult to push through the dreadful narrator.
something about his delivery made me totally emotionally detached from the main characters... I like to bond with them, feel their emotions, care about the consequences.
I just thought they didn't seem very human, and the monitone, slightly robotic narrator ruined an otherwise fantastic read.
sad thing is , I really want to listen to "house" but it's narrated by the same man......shame.

Superb Creepy Story

Listened to this in 2 sessions, just couldn’t pull myself away! Builds slowly then gets right under your skin to the point you’re hooked. Highly recommended !
