Summary
The Stepping Stones of Spiritual Maturity explores our transformation when we bring our true selves before our Creator and the freedom resulting from choosing God’s way. Interwoven with her own transformation story, author Angela Guy looks at how the Sermon on the Mount relates to and deepens the Beatitudes by describing them both as a cross-shaped path toward God’s heart, and stepping stones to cross before we can continue along the path. Guy also explores the difference between who we are, compared to a righteous God in whom we learn to abide, and shows how our identity and worth are found in Jesus alone.
About the Author:
Angela Guy lives in northeast Ohio with her husband and four children. Raised in the church, but going her own way over the years, she has struggled much of her life with feeling seen and accepted. She loves sharing with others how God has provided her with purpose and has healed the deep hurts. She cherishes pondering God’s Word in the quiet of the morning and listening to the wind rustling through the trees.
Critic reviews
"Angie takes the richness found in God’s Word and weaves a beautiful tapestry focused on the Sermon on the Mount. As she unravels these verses, she directs our attention to many valuable cross references and provides deeper understanding for the reader. I appreciate Angie’s vulnerability, authentic heart, and her willingness to share the real struggles she has faced in her relationship with the Lord. She invites readers to search their own hearts. These pages have drawn me into a time of reflection, evaluation, and worship before the Lord. I urge readers to ask the Lord how to apply these vital truths in their own hearts and lives." —Brenda McCord, Walk with God, podcast co-host
"Prepare to be challenged because Angela asks the hard questions. Her direct approach cuts a path just wide enough to guide the reader to a place of understanding, with the intent to induce reflection and soul-searching depth. A self-proclaimed introvert, she masterfully bares her life to the reader for the sole purpose of facilitating growth, revealing a servant’s heart. A must read for those seeking maturity in their walk with God." —Jane Blasio, Author, Taken at Birth-Stolen Babies, Hidden Lies, and My Journey to Finding Home
"Angela has been given a gift of holy insight into the Beatitudes - what they are saying and calling us to beneath the surface – which is ultimately greater freedom, joy, vibrancy, and intimacy with God. She is faithful in speaking what the Lord has revealed to her within The Sermon on the Mount by sharing a deeply biblical and thoughtful perspective on it, as well as a personal connection to it through her own story of transformation. She is vulnerable, truthful, and humble while bringing these verses to life within her own life story. In awe and gratitude, I have journeyed with her through the stepping stones of the Beatitudes, inviting Jesus to further open my eyes and transform my heart. I am continually amazed by the layers of truth, as well as by the layers of my heart that are revealed as I read and ponder further. These seemingly simple statements in Matthew hold deep significance, invitation, and impact. These stepping stones are like following clues that unlock deeper and deeper treasures instilled within our hearts by our Creator. Blessed are those who take this journey!" —Heather J.
