About this listen
The Book of Exodus is the key beginning to the foundations of Israelite and later Jewish Faith. It’s contents and particular plot are designed to narrate (1) not just the origins of this people's faith, but (2) the way it is to be lived by readers and believers in ages to come.
First Talk - We will explore the plot and the literary artistry of the Book as a single message for the reader and how the ancient "story" becomes a model for the community of faith. Second Talk - The dramatic setting of God's plan for deliverance (Exodus 1-2) is followed by the equally dramatic story of Moses' faith and how he brings it to the people. Third Talk - The narrative of the escape from Egypt, replacement of the first-born, trial and testing, and Covenant giving at Mount Sinai forms the foundations for Israel's faith in God as a people of obedience. Fourth Talk - The nature of Israel's enduring faith, tradition and spirituality of faithfulness to God alone is rooted in the Torah spirituality of Mount Sinai and the necessary accompaniment of the great priestly traditions of the Sanctuary and Ark Traditions. Fifth Talk - Jesus himself is interpreted in the New Testament through the thought of Exodus, so we need also to look at the Exodus motif in the rest of the OT and in Christian interpretation of the Last Supper, the Cross, Baptism, and the Eucharist.

A superb treatment of its subject
Where does The Spirituality of the Book of Exodus rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
As a Protestant convinced of Sola Scriptural it's frustrating to find that it seems to be our Catholic brethren who are able to deal honestly with the biblical data. Boast both accommodates modern scholarship while insisting that to be bogged down in details and concerns of consistency are Western obsessions alien to the ancient Near East culture and one suspects every other ancient culture. This allows him to deal with the purpose of the book which he does with humour, humility and integrity.
One of the best books I've had from Audible and Boast is a great speaker, though I think it makes a difference that he's speaking to an audience so the book feels "live". Recommended if like me the study of scripture is your joy.
