Summary

When Anna Marshall is transported from her boring and frustrating life in Ames, Iowa, to the very different world of Erde, she's angry and confused. But she soon finds out that for the first time in her life she's uniquely powerful. In Iowa, Anna was a music teacher and small-time opera singer, but on Erde, her musical ability makes her a big-time sorceress-potentially. First, though, she must figure out how to use her ability before the rulers kill her.

Great read

Loved the idea that a talented Earth woman could make a difference in a medieval world.

Repetive and boring

I listened right through to the end in the vain hope that it would improve at the end but it wasn't to be. After Anna is magically transported to another world where she turns out to be a powerful sorceress the story consists of a limited number of actions performed by Anna repeated over and over again. Anna has a drink of water, performs some feat of magic which more often than that not gives her a bad headache or causes her to collapse, she kills x number of people with magic, feels bad about killing but justifies why it needs to be done, rides and grooms her raider horse that apparently no one else can, eats a lot of bread and cheese, composes spells. That's about it besides the occasional weirdly written interludes describing the actions of leaders of other kingdoms spying on Anna doing the above and plotting her downfall.
