About this listen

The University, a renowned bastion of knowledge, attracts the brightest minds to unravel the mysteries of enlightened sciences like artificing and alchemy. Yet deep below its bustling halls lies a complex and cavernous maze of abandoned rooms and ancient passageways - and in the heart of it all lives Auri.

Formerly a student at the University, now Auri spends her days tending the world around her. She has learned that some mysteries are best left settled and safe. No longer fooled by the sharp rationality so treasured by the University, Auri sees beyond the surface of things, into subtle dangers and hidden names.

At once joyous and haunting, THE SLOW REGARD OF SILENT THINGS is a rich, atmospheric and lyrical tale, featuring one of the most beloved characters from Rothfuss' acclaimed fantasy series.

Bad editing

I really enjoyed the book but it is terribly edited as an audiobook. The first part repeats and the authors note comes before the final chapter. Ironically it kind of fits with the book being a stream of consciousness, but I’m sure it isn’t meant to listen like that.

A beautiful story

A fantastic addition to the series. Well worth the listen and perfectly narrated. As good as the main story, maybe not, but far from something you’d want to miss out.

What it should be

I liked it very much, Owley I would say was learning from the University and learnt more than most. It makes me think that the only way to know certain things is to be that much different to everyone else, as are the tutors.

poor editing - great story

I had hoped the other reviews were wrong about the bad editing, but they weren't. I loved the story but wonder if I've missed sections because the intro and authors end explanation are not in the correct places and the first chapter repeats. so I've returned it. I hope they re-edit this as its a great story and I love this narrator as its the same as the other books.

Poorly edited

I love Patrick Rothfuss, I ADORE Rupert Degas, but this has been so poorly edited. There were two re-read sentences, the prologue is after chapter 1, then chapter 1 plays again, and the epilogue isn't it the right place either. very disappointed.

Well written, but nothing happens

To be fair, the author did put a warning on the book that it's not like his other books.

I listened until the end in case something interesting happened, but unfortunately it didn't.

The book was very well written though, and performed excellently (I deliberately didn't purchase the other version narrated by the author).

I like it. But…..

I actually really enjoyed this. And although nothing really happens in a traditional sense. It was a lovely window into a day in the life. It gave this character more depth and built on the world PR is building.
The reason I’ve only given it 3 stars is that the audio file is corrupted. Please audible! Fix this book. The chapters jump about in the wrong order. The word from the author suddenly starts in the middle of the book. It’s a mess. I would love to hear it in the correct order!!!

Short

Be aware on purchasing that this novella is even shorter than its playing time suggests as both the first and last chapters are repeated. And another two chapters are musings by the author on how difficult it was to write! You have been warned.

A wonderful look into Auri's world

This is like no other book I have listened to, it is a story that allows you to connect to Auri in her life in the underthing. See, hear and feel what she is feeling. The other characters are the items and places she interacts with not people or animals so be aware that it is not your typical story. It is beautiful and touching.

Poor production quality and story

Although the narrator is great as always the production quality with chapters out of order and duplicated is very lacking. On the story, as a fan of the previous 2 books this was a sore disappointment. Slow and boring not for me!
