So glad to have found this series

The protagonist is a reluctant and accidental ghost whisperer. I became completely engrossed in the book and accepting of the supernatural realm, as Angie Fox created and weaved a very convincing afterlife around the plot. It was written in an exciting, first person, very believable style which made for a really great story. The ending does not disappoint.
Even those who don't usually read ghost stories should enjoy this book. Loved it. Can't wait to download the next one.
Tavia Gilbert does a brilliant job of the narration; after hearing her performance, I don't think anyone else could do justice to these books.
Note that I only review a book if I really like it so I rate them high because I feel it is well deserved.

An Engaging Mystery With Many Hidden Secrets.

I fell in love with Angie Fox’s writing style after reading Southern Spirits back in 2017. Her books are very easy to read and I like the way she weaves all the elements of her stories together. The mystery, the strained relationship between Verity and the rest of the townsfolk of Sugarland, Verity’s financial struggles and, of course, the ghosts and their issues.  The Skeleton in the Closet did not let me down.

Tavia Gilbert is the voice of this series. Her narration adds rather than detracts from the story. I like the pace that she reads the books as well as the voices she gives the characters. Tavia's performance brings out the appropriate emotions and transports me into every scene.

I loved that the characters, both living and dead, were complex and multi-dimensional with their own stories, agendas and personalities. The twists and quirks that Ms Fox created in her paranormal world of spirits were fantastic. I loved that the town of Sugarland is steeped with history and charm; the scenes are so well described, that I was easily transported there.

I prefer to read stories with intelligent, witty heroines. Females who have plenty of gumption and resilience. Protagonists who never give up. Verity is the perfect leading lady, she ticks all my boxes.

I wouldn’t class The Skeleton in the Closet as a romance novel. However, I enjoyed how the friendship between Verity and Ellis continues to build and develop throughout this book. The pace feels very natural and realistic. I can imagine that the romance between Verity and Ellis will continue to blossom in future books. I also like the way that Verity’s relationships with the ghosts in Sugarland are portrayed – especially Frankie.

OK, for a cosy mystery this has some wonderfully tense moments. I think I actually held my breath for a few pages – scary! I usually work out the ‘who dun it’  aspect in cosy books before the big reveal at the end too. However, that wasn’t the case here and I loved that!

I really loved this book; although it’s a quick read, it doesn’t lack depth! The Skeleton in the Closet has everything that I look for in a 5-star book. It gave me all the feels; I laughed, cried, was on the edge of my seat (I was even a bit scared at times), and was gripped! Murder, mystery, humour and a cute romance what more could a girl want!

Enjoyed this light-hearted tale.

This type of story is right up my street when I want to listen to something relaxing. It's an easy story to follow, with just enough going on with the mystery angle to keep you engaged.

It's also nice to have a story that doesn't degenerate into the sex scenes that so many tales seem to rely on these days. They're not needed, and it's annoying when they're not hinted at in a book summary so at least you have an idea of what to expect. With that lacking, it allows the budding romance between the two main characters to develop more naturally. That in turn has you rooting for them more.

I loved Frankie in that he was so different to the lead character. It allowed for some natural humour to seep through the story.

The only downside I had was the narrator. Compared to some she did a very good job. However there is a tendency for her to have the main character slways speaking in a tone of fear. This might be okay, expect it detracts from the moments when you want that tension. It could be that is how she was directed to talk, but whatever the reason it doesn't really work. Again in her defence, it's something that I have noticed in other audio books, which is why I wonder if that is what she was asked to do. That is the only reason why I marked this down a star.

Overall I enjoyed this enough to buy the others in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing if they can get Frankie free from his grounding, and also to see if the Mother-in-Law that wasn't gets shown up for the nasty person she actually is.

Light hearted and pacey

An engaging, entertaining read. I'm buying the next in series which is as good a recommendation as anyone can give.
