About this listen

Six women. Six abductions. Six souls in peril...

London is in the grip of a barbaric serial killer, dubbed Herod by the tabloid press. Four pregnant women have been abducted in quick succession, their bodies mutilated and dumped. When a fifth pregnant woman, Julia Caton, is taken from her home in the dead of night, DCI David Rosen knows that time is running out to save her... Then Rosen gets a mysterious phone call from Father Sebastian Flint, an enigmatic priest who seems to know rather too much about the abductions. When it emerges that Father Flint was once the Vatican's leading expert on the occult, the investigation takes an increasingly disturbing turn. But it isn't until Rosen discovers the existence of an ancient text - said to be the devil's answer to the bible - that the true horror of Herod's plan begins to unfold. Rosen is drawn inexorably to the killer's lair, where he will discover a terrible truth - that Herod's retribution is absolute, and that there are far worse things than death...

Mark Roberts was born and raised in Liverpool and was educated at St. Francis Xavier's College. He was a teacher for twenty years and he received a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for best new play of the year. The Sixth Soul is his first novel for adults.

Straight in at the Dark End!

A detective novel with a slightly gruesome twist - the ie. the kidnap and murder of pregnant women. Despite that, the book is well written with interesting characters and remains exciting to the end. Look forward to the second book.

Couldn't put it down.

Enjoyed this book from begining to end.
No matter how obvious the story might seem, the characters are the authors property to do with what he wishes.

This should be a movie!

Joe Jameson is a great narrator and has done justice to this perfectly scripted book. Well done Mark Roberts and Joe Jameson. Looking forward to more from the author. And of course, more from Mr Joe Jameson.

Very enjoyable

I had not previously read anything by this author so I took a chance on this and was pleasantly surprised. It was a very entertaining police/murder with a creepy slant.
The narrator represented the characters well and the author leaves you wanting more.

slow burner

Characterisation a bit stilted which made it difficult to get into. Improved to good ending

Exciting

This was a good, exciting listen. It made few demands and was ideal entertainment for when I was doing the decorating. Reminded me of a tv police drama and would probably work well as such. The characters developed well and are sympathetic enough to stand further outings in future books.

The narration was excellent.

A Great Read

I was recently searching for a new author and was pleased to discover Mark Roberts. The authors first novel, The Sixth Soul kept me engrossed from beginning to end. As a big fan of crime novels, I was extremely impressed with this book and I am now eagerly awaiting the authors next instalment.

In my opinion, this book is a 5 * listen and a must read for any fan of crime fiction.

Interesting D.I.

DI David Rosen is in charge of tracking down a serial killer who is targeting pregnant women, Difficulties at work from his senior officer, a reasonable home life, with some problems. Good narration
