Good short stories, odd narrator

These short stories are very interesting and well written however the narrator seemed to think she was reading on cbeebies.
I almost gave up within the first five minutes but the book is worth powering through the overdramatic and overly cheery reading.

Edit - I ended up returning this book, very disappointing as Doyle is one of my favourite authors, however the narrator is SO off putting that I couldn't finish the last 5 stories.

Annoying voice.

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't think anyone would persevere with this reading

Would you ever listen to anything by Arthur Conan Doyle again?

Yes, definitely, but with a different reader

Would you be willing to try another one of Cathy Dobson’s performances?

No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Short Stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?

Cut nothing out

Any additional comments?

Very disappointed. I love Conan Doyle's work, and could not continue long listening because of the repetitive modulation pattern of the reader.

Good if you can bear the narration

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I loved the stories but the narration really intruded. Now I fully realise that some may find her style acceptable but personally I found her voice far too 'watch with mother' and her delayed terminal consonants very irritating. I would strongly suggest listening to a long sample before purchase. I am not sure if I can bear to finish listening to this audiobook!

Performance really spoils it

Not quite the standard of the Sherlock Holmes stories, but would certainly be much better without Cathy Dobson's performance, she doesn't have an unpleasant voice but seems to use that upward inflection incessantly, which ruins it for me, also ruins her performance of the Psammead Trilogy

What on Earth??

What disappointed you about The Short Stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?

I got Twenty minutes in and could not stand another minute of the Narrators performance

What will your next listen be?

I've started Zodiac Station

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice was up in tone then normal then up then normal and all in the wrong places. It drove me insane

What character would you cut from The Short Stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?

I would still like to hear the stories as I'm a huge fan, but not with this Narrator

Any additional comments?

I also have great Spy stories with this Narrator and it's just the same; urgh

Awful narrator.

I love Conan Doyles books. The likes of Stephen Fry gives excellent performances. This narrator ruined the stories. Terrible narrating style. Her voice goes up and down with grievous annoyance. Every last word goes up a notch in pitch. Absolutely ruined a brilliant volume of stories by the master that is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Clashing narration

Terrible narration, the whole book ruined by a women in a mans suit and tie reanacting a man from the late 1800s period.
Obviously!
