Graham Masterton
About this listen
Jerry Pardoe and Jamila Patel hunt down a ritualistic cult inspired by Neolithic cannibals in the new chilling horror from Graham Masterton.
Det. Sgt. Jamila Patel and Det. Con. Jerry Pardoe have reluctantly acquired a reputation in the Metropolitan Police for their ability to tackle bizarre and apparently supernatural crimes. Now they have been called back together after three bodies are found in a London basement...bodies which have been taken apart, roasted and eaten.
The markings on the wall suggest this might have been done by some kind of religious cult - and as more people are kidnapped and cannibalised, Patel and Pardoe realise they are dealing with a group of devil-worshippers invoking an ancient god who has not been worshipped since the Neolithic age....

AWFUL!
I read the first two books and thoroughly enjoyed both of them, quirky storylines and excellent narration. What on earth happened to book 3? I’ve managed to struggle up to chapter 7 but I can’t see me reading much more! I thought there was a new lead character called Joey because the narrator can’t pronounce Jerry! The narration is TRULY AWFUL! It is beyond bad! Her attempt at a welsh accent is an insult to the Welsh! I think the storyline could be quite good as I enjoy Masterton’s themes and subject matter but I’ll never know because I simply can’t listen to anymore! It’s so bad that I’m seriously considering requesting a refund from Audible!

Don't waste your credit! Not author's fault.
I've said it in other reviews and I'll say it again - I am the least fussy person when it comes to narrators - as long as they can read clearly and competently. Unfortunatelt this person can't do either of those things. It reminds me of the awful creepy pasta narrators on YouTube (there are some great ones though!). The narrator is ignoring all punctuation, puts emphasis on the wrong parts of sentences so the meaning is lost, leaves pauses in the middle of sentences, and reads as though she's reading a children's book with faux excitement even though it's not warranted.
Please, please do not waste your credits unless the book is re-narrated by someone else. Gutted I wasted a precious credit on this, Graham Masterton deserves much better!!

Good but …..
Great story
Awful, awful narration. Very robotic and nasally. Every charter sounds the same making it hard to follow .

An Excellent Storyline Ruined by Dreadful Narration
This really should have been an excellent audiobook. Graham Masterton is on top form with a brilliant storyline with all the blood and guts you’d expect from him.
However, the narrator is appalling. Every dialect sounded exactly the same.
On top of that, she didn’t put any emphasis on any part of the story. Everything she said was totally flat and deadpan.
It was such a shame to have a great story ruined by a useless narrator. I was ready to give up on the audiobook by the end of the first chapter.
However, I persisted if only to see where the story would go. The ending left the story open so I’m hoping there maybe a follow up book, but with a new narrator.

The awful story telling !
Loved the story but the lady who told it had no inflection in her voice. There was an Indian or Pakistani lady in it who sounded like a Londoner. Totally spoiled it for me.

Excellently narrated book
I really enjoyed listening to this book, finishing it in two days, ‘at work’. 10/10 for narration.

dear god!!!!
okay I won't lie the story itself is fantastic, but I have to say this from the start and I am not at all one for being awful or nasty. The narrator is in need of a new job. accents were terrible and the whole dialogue was so monotone I couldn't make out where a action part was or a sad part. let alone a gruesome part.
definitely needs a redo just to give it it's just due performance

Poor narration
The low-quality narration really spoiled this for me. The reading doesn’t flow at all, with a stilted delivery, odd sentence breaks and strangely emphasised words throughout. I’m afraid the accents were quite painful to listen to.
If you’re interested in the story, I’d recommend a print or Kindle version instead.

Shadow people
Incomprehensible nonsense from start to finish and probably the worst narrator ever?it's worth getting as it was free for the worst Welsh accent ever...I've nothing good to say avoid if you have to pay.

An absolute joke
Is this book a wind-up. I ask as I normally enjoy Graham Masterton however it seems he now has enough money he's getting his dog to churn out his latest releases. This pile of steaming dogs do is read by someone who only has 22 letters in their alphabet and struggles with a consonant after a vowel - to make matters worse all the characters talk like Dick van Dyck in Mary Poppins. I'm 30 minutes in and that is 30 mins of my life I'll never get back again.
To add insult to injury I can't even return this title for some reason so I'm stuck with this festering pile. For the love of God and everything holy, nail your tongue to a hotplate before you buy this embarrassing word salad.
Graham mate, don't embarrass yourself any more and lets remember you for the decent books you have written. if you can't be bloody arsed to write a book, then don't bother writing one - nothing at all is better than this cringe-fest.
It gets 1 star for everything as system doesn't allow you to give none at all so please don't be fooled by a single star.
