About this listen
Those in power always need an unofficial option. In 2009, the CIA’s Kabul station fell for the claims of a source who promised to lead them to Osama bin Laden’s hideout, but instead blew himself up, taking several senior officers with him. Two years later the station is still floundering, agents are dying, and no one knows who to trust. John Wells reluctantly agrees to investigate, returning to the country where his career as an undercover operative began.
There he finds a viper’s nest of hostility - and clues that hint at a drug-trafficking operation involving the agency, the military and the Taliban. Americans are dying, and an American is responsible. Only John Wells stands in his way…for now.

Not best in series
Set mainly in Afghanistan John Wells is drawn in to investigate the poor performance of the CIA team based in that country.
It is not surprising the team is under-performancing as two years earlier the majaority of the senior CIA team had been assassinated by an 'asset' with a nasty suicide bomb.
The story is not as good as previous ones in the series with a fairly predictable end.
