Summary

The brand new John Wells thriller from New York Times best seller Alex Berenson. Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah fears he is fast losing control of his family and his people. A series of terrorist attacks has put his kingdom on edge and, with powerful factions operating against him, the king must turn to the one man he has been told will make the difference. Ex-CIA operative John Wells knows all too well how covert internal battles can undermine a nation. With the stability of a powerful Middle Eastern country at stake, he goes undercover to investigate. But it soon becomes clear that the plotters want more than the fall of a monarch. Their objective is to spark the final bloody conflagration between Islam and the West.

Critic reviews

"Extraordinary...Berenson brings back one of his most intriguing characters, terrorist hunter John Wells." ( JCC Atlanta)
' The Secret Soldier luxuriates in violence, positively raging in Tarentino-style carnage... Berenson is convincing at forensics, scenery and storytelling, and his characters adept with entertaining, rat-a-tat zingers." ( International Herald Tribune)

John Wells in action again

Wells goes to work as a freelance agent for the Saudi King. Ofcourse things get convoluted and he ends up seeking help from his old friends at the CIA.

Wells and Brett Gaffan go deep undercover, to uncover a plot to destabilise the Saudi leadership and damage beyond repare the relationship that country has with the USA.

I enjoy these stories but alway feel let down when they finish. The plot is a little too slick and I am left feeling there is something missing- hence only 4 🌟

Georde Guidall's narration is 5 🌟, as always.

Good story terrible performance

Story was fine but my enjoyment was marred by the speaker's terrible delivery and poor diction. Many words stopped before their endings. Sometimes so you had to guess what was being said. Sentences that tailed off in volume. Very disappointing.
