About this listen

A dark secret and a deadly score to settle.

In 1997 teenager Sophie White and her three girlfriends decide they want to lose their virginity before summer is over.

Roping in her childhood buddy Gareth and his mates, Sophie holds a party to get the deed over and done with, but the night doesn’t end as planned.

Twenty years later, the group are brought back together when Gareth is killed in a car accident and Sophie begins receiving threatening messages. It seems the party wasn’t as innocent as everyone thought, and now someone wants payback.

A gripping, highly addictive game of cat and mouse where the past comes back with vengeance. Perfect for the fans of Kimberley Chambers, Emma Tallon and Jessie Keane.

great book!

Really enjoyed this book. Great twist, too. Don't turn off straight after as there is a chat between author and narrator, which was such a nice touch.

Predictable

It was very obvious who was causing the drama and also who had committed the original crime, I carried on listening because I was convinced that it couldn’t be that obvious and I was wrong, I wasn’t. Overall, it was ok.

Slightly annoying

Like other listeners, I guessed the ending quite early on in the story which meant that the bulk of it was quite frustrating and long-winded. There were way too many descriptions of hearts hammering, icy fingers of dread up and down spines, hair standing on end, waves of nausea… that sort of thing. It was as if the author was trying to find novel ways to describe basic sensations and that eventually became annoying and predictable! I didn’t much care for the basic premise of the book either and the action at the beginning would not, to my mind, constitute 'the greatest day' of anyone's life, unless you are just a bit shallow! Don’t think I will try another one by Gemma. Sorry. Perhaps better for teenagers.

Each chapter keeps you engrossed. Twists that keep you wondering. Will definitely be reading more from this author.

Basic

It’s ok
Basic thriller with basic plot (I’d worked it out by about halfway through). Quite a bit of unlikely/borderline ridiculous plotting.
Basic writing. Not awful but not literary in any way.
Basic narration. Easy, light but not particularly animated and no character depth.

It was alright but completely forgettable.

Hard Work

Found reading the book to be quite hard work, there was lots of trivial detail. Relieved to finally finish it
