About this listen

When Elizabeth drops her beloved only daughter off at college, she holds back the tears…fighting her worries about an empty nest with the thought of all the adventures that she and her husband Joel can now enjoy together. But as soon as they sit down to eat dinner that evening, Joel drops a bombshell. He wants a break.

Searching for an escape, Elizabeth discovers an apartment in Rome that is only available for three months rental to ‘an English woman of a certain age’. She reads on to find out the philosophy of Veronica, the 75-year-old owner, is that there is always joy to be found, however difficult the circumstances, and that it is an insult to the gift of life to not live it joyfully and fully – and that there is no better place to make this happen than Rome, the most beautiful city in the world.

Elizabeth accepts the challenge, and on arrival, finds that Veronica has a numbered list of challenges for her.

True

These are thoughts and feelings women of this character’s age have thought. The fantasy of escaping is realised, while the pressure to stay with established routine is acknowledged.
To whom do we owe loyalty? Ourselves or others? Which is wrong…. Or right….

Thought provoking

I really enjoyed this book.
I think a lot of middle aged women will find aspects of themselves in this story. I certainly did.
Kerry brought out so much of the British way of life and how we accept things and go about our lives as a function and not an enjoyment.
Great narration too.

Excellent

I particularly loved that this book was set in Rome. I love Italy and she brought it to life for me interwoven with the main characters life. Congratulations…again … on your writing and of course to Emma your narrator who reads your words with just the right amount of care and emotion. Many, many thanks to you both.

A brilliant enjoyable book

Wow, I have listened to this audio book in a few days and wish I could keep on listening to it. I will definitely play it again as I loved the feel and humour and I want to jet off to Rome immediately even though I have been there.
I have listened or read every book Kerry has written and love them all. I can hardly wait for the next one.
