Summary

A DCI Michael Yorke thriller.

A vicious serial killer slithers from the darkness, determined to resurrect the ways of a long-dead civilization.

When the ex-wife of one of DCI Michael Yorke’s closest allies is left mutilated and murdered, Yorke and his team embark on their greatest test yet. A deeply personal case that will push them to their very limits. And, as Yorke’s team are pulled further into the dark, the killer circles, preparing to strike again.

The Repenting Serpent is a true edge-of-the-seat, nail-biting pause resister!

Praise for the book:

"Wes Markin is a new name to watch out for in crime fiction." (Stephen Booth, best-selling crime author)

Page Turner

I found this book another real page turner, i'm not a great fan of horror books but this kind of thriller come horror really works for me. once again Aubrey Parsons really throws himself into the story and reads it brilliantly. No hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Now looking forward to reading the third book in the series once i've read a few nice ones! LOL!

Unpleasant but compelling

Wes Markin has an imagination I would not wish to share.

He gives us a story in our complex lives in which many search for something to believe in would most likely happen.
Initially there are many strands that appear to be unconnected and we are confused as Yorke and his team until some of these strands begin to weave together into a most macabre and sad tale; which you feel compelled to finish although you have an unpleasant feeling in your stomach.

I am not sure how much more Yorke and is team can take but I know I will be there to find out in book three.

I alternated between the ebook which I give 4* and the audiobook which I give 5* for Aubrey Parsons ability to bring another DCI Yorke story to life.

Enjoyable story

This is the second book in the series that I've listened to and yet again thoroughly enjoyed it. There is the main crime story which the book mainly focuses on which I felt was quite unique and very enjoyable. There is also the story of the main characters which I feel the author develops well without it encroaching on the main story. Will definitely read more.

I was disappointed in this read, the only good thing was that it was a free download.

Interesting story but flawed

This is an interesting story but it is flawed, the characters all display extremely bizarre behaviour, for instance, why did Iain Brookes not go to Harrogate with Ewan, both would then have been safe ? That, of course, would have destroyed a huge part of the story, but would have been infinitely more satisfying for this listener and some other victims could have been written in their place, victims who had reasons for not going to Harrowgate for instance. DCI Yorke displays nothing but ineptitude whilst working this case, he hares off in one direction only to veer off in another. Police procedure is rather lacking in these stories which may explain why they are so inept. (but they do manage to solve their cases eventually). I couldn't keep up with which character is speaking, one moment they are referred to by surname, the next moment by their forename, I never really knew who was who except for Ewan Brookes and Lacey Ray who were definitely my two favourite characters (probably because I knew who they were).

It did keep my interest though, desite these flaws although I admit to rewinding a fair few times.

The narration is good, but as with book one, there are numerous and irritating mispronunciations, which I thought were errors in the text until I checked out the ebook for myself, the text is fine so the narrator gets three stars for being enthusiatic but needs to pay more attention to pronunciation.

Great police procedural

I have enjoyed this second instalment from Wes Markin as much as the first, they are great reads/listens and have well written storylines. Great book, great narrator.

A true thriller

I preferred this second book to the first one, Last Prayer for the Rays. It is well written, nicely detailed and quite gory in places, lots of suspense, twists and thrills, everything a good thriller should be.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.
