About this listen

It's 1961 and the Queen is planning her state visit to Italy aboard Britannia. But before she goes, an unreliable witness claims to have seen a brutal murder from the royal train. Did it really happen, and could the victim be a missing friend of Princess Margaret's new husband, Tony Armstrong Jones?

The Queen and her assistant private secretary, Joan McGraw, get to work on their second joint investigation, little imagining that this time it will take them all the way to Venice in a tale of spies, lies and Cold War skulduggery.©2024 S.J. Bennett (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

thought Joan could have been less two dimensional. also she did not show a strong personality to the male characters.

Another brilliant story from SJ Bennett; thoroughly enjoyable listen. However I do wish the narrator knew how to say the word ‘nuclear’. Why the extra letter/syllable? New-clear (two syllables), NOT ‘nuke-U-lar (three syllables)! Nu. Clear.

Nuke-u-lar?!

I’ve loved the whole series and gutted there are no more. Won’t it have been wonderful if these stories were true. Thank you

This was a joy to listen to, Samantha Bond’s narration was perfect, her voices enabled me to visualise everything as it happened. I loved the idea of the Queen having exceptional observational skills and analysing situations and then subtly helping. This was set in the early 1960s against a backdrop of the space race, technological advances but it started with a murder seen from the Royal Train.
I enjoyed this tale immensely as it took us on the Royal Train, the Royal Yacht Britannia, around Italy and the Mediterranean with the Queen and her entourage, including her very able assistant private secretary. Joan McCraw.
I couldn’t stop smiling as I listened.
