There is a need for a new narrator…
I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.
I must say that the narrator, Dustin Konrad, did not do this story any justice. The story didn’t fail because of him, but his lack of English (or American), didn’t help. Words like “Greenwich” or “Quay” were beyond him and detracted from the telling. Also, his delivery was slow, plodding even.
The story of itself was good, but not great. I can see why it was aligned with Le Carré, it has the same pace and the same diversity in characters but, because it is a short story, the characters all seem squashed together, in order to quickly play their part, so that they could be dispatched to make room for the next character. Therefore, in parts, the story seemed rushed and unfinished.
This was episode one of a much bigger story. It shows promise and I shall look out for subsequent episodes, but I would hesitate to purchase it if the same narrator is used.
