G.A. Aiken
About this listen
In New York Times best-selling author G.A. Aiken's gripping new fantasy romance series, the Blacksmith Queen must confront armies and pretenders desperate to take her new-won crown. But with the Princess Knight at her side and a centaur warrior clan at her back, she'll risk everything for victory....
Long live the queen
Gemma Smythe dedicated her life to the glory of battle. With her fellow War Monks, she worshipped the war gods, rained destruction on her enemies, and raised the dead when the fancy took her. Until her sister Keeley became the prophesied Blacksmith Queen, and Gemma broke faith with her order to journey to the Amichai Mountain and fight by Keeley's side.
The Amichai warriors are an unruly, never-to-be-tamed lot, especially their leader-in-waiting, Quinn. But when the War Monks declare support for Gemma's ruthless youngest sister, Beatrix, the immaturity of her key ally is the least of Gemma's problems. She has to get to the grand masters, dispel their grudge against her, and persuade them to fight for Keeley and justice. If her conviction can't sway them, perhaps Quinn's irritating, irreverent, clearly unhinged ferocity will win the day....

Great story ruined by the narration
I gave it 4 stars because I really enjoyed the story itself, but the narration that turned Gemma and Keeley into whiney, bickering brats was almost unbearable. The interpretation of the text was bizarre and frustrating and did not align with the dialogue.

very funny
I much preferred the narrator from the first book who just pulled off the accents but I still enjoyed the book.

Another great instalment to the series.
Another brilliant book from author, but found the narration not as good as the first. Whilst the first narration gave us Guy Ritchey film style narration with emphasis in all the right places, scenes and action moments that made the first story so the great, the second narration not. Although good, it wasn't great the obvious accent difference plus the scene emphasis did not come across as vivid as in the first. Often a bit whiney at times, and actually the heroine Gemma should not come across as such. Was a bit disappointed but stuck with it as author is great. Still would recommend for the story.

Amazing continuation
This series is shaping up to be something special! I highly recommend it (first book is the Blacksmith Queen, this is the second).
We get a bit more insight into the world and how it fits in with another series of the same author and even get to meet some of my all-time favourite characters again, (I like a good cross-over) however it is not necessary to read that series to enjoy this one.
This books focus is on the continued fight for dominance in the two Queendoms and the machinations this leads to, it gives more background on the religious sects and the battle monks in particular.
There is a bit of romance and loads of hilarity and gore along the way!
OK, I am ready for book 3!

Love this story
A great addition to the series. Look forward to reading about Anwyl again.
Would have preferred the original narrator from the Blacksmith Queen.

Loved this one too
Wish there were more in the series ready to download. Really enjoyed this one too. Great epic tale, but also super ‘human’ and humorous.

What?
I struggled to finish but I carried on. What a disappointment. I couldn't follow the plot.. was there one? I love Dragon kin books. The Blacksmith Queen was excellent. I should have stopped there. Sorry!
