About this listen

The fourth book in the supernatural series by Anthony Horowitz.

Evil has been unleashed on the world and only five children - with special powers - can save it. Matt and the other three desperately need to find Scar, the final gatekeeper, who has been trapped in Hong Kong, where puddles of water turn into puddles of blood, where ghosts, demons and hideous creatures stalk the streets. Matt has no choice but to follow her. Now, both imprisoned, their only hope of survival is to reach a secret door in the Man Ho temple. But even if Scar can find her psychic power, it may already be too late.

A fantastic book

The Power of Five is one of my all-time favourite franchises, in particular in the fantasy genre. I read them as a teenager.
Horowitz is a real master of storytelling, and the twists that he includes are fantastic and help to drive the narrative
The narrator, Paul Panting, is brilliant and I can't really fault him - he distiguishes between the variety of voices well. I particularly liked his voices for Lohan and Scarlett.

For sure it is good reading. However I'd suggest that one reads Raven's Gate before to get a better understanding of the plotline.

Character development

Unnecessary repetition. Good concept though. Excited to see how it turns out. Didn’t enjoy the ‘convenient’ ending to led to another book.
