Summary

Bruce Baron was a first rate foreign correspondent during World War II, but his association with the Communist Party plunges him into trouble with the McCarthy witch hunts. His only salvation is the passionate and feisty Molly Maguire but her own political leanings do nothing to help his cause.

Editor reviews

Christopher Kipiniak's voice is husky and mysterious, capturing Howard Fast's tone to perfection. If you like suspense, history, and adventure, you'll be entranced by The Pledge. Bruce Bacon, Fast's protagonist, is a foreign correspondent during World War II. He travels to Europe and India, witnessing international unrest. Upon his return to the States, two life-changing events take place; first he meets Molly Maguire, a well-spoken, attractive Irishwoman, who he falls in love with. Secondly, Bruce Bacon is called to a hearing before HUAC. In prison, Bacon is forced to face the tragedy of America's dwindling postwar democracy.
