Summary
The mysterious sixth entry in the Hangman's Daughter series.
It is 1670 and Simon Fronwieser is in the town of Oberammergau to bring his seven-year-old son to boarding school. As he bids his boy a tearful farewell, news comes of a shocking murder: the man who was to play the part of Christ in the town's Passion play has been found dead, nailed to the set's cross. As there is no doctor in town, Simon is brought in to examine the body. The opportunities to spend more time with his son and to investigate the murder quickly convince him to stay.
Soon he is joined by his father-in-law, Jakob Kuisl, the Schongau hangman, and the two begin piecing together the puzzle of the actor's death. Was he murdered by a jealous rival? Are the recently arrived and unpopular immigrant workers somehow involved? Or is it a punishment from God for the villagers' arrogance in trying to schedule the play four years earlier than prescribed by ancient custom? Once again it looks like it is up to the Kuisls to unravel the mystery and bring a town's dark secrets to light.

Wonderfully addictive
I feel like Potzsch is writing just for me! The historical detail, riveting cliffhangers and developing characters keep me coming back. I just can’t get enough of the Kuisls!

Hanging on every word!
I'm addicted to this series of Hangman books and had bought every book for my Kindle. I had started reading book 6 when I joined Audible and was in two minds whether to continue reading it or listening to the narration. I'm so pleased I did buy the audio version as I was able to listen to the book on my daily exercise walks. The narrator is very good. I think it's read with an American twang as he says 'erbs instead of herbs. He pronounces names of the characters the German way and it took a bit of time to get used to See-mon instead of Simon and also the German pronunciation of the name of the hangman. Now, if these are my only gripes then that's not bad going. I'm now on book 7 and have not opened the text version so I must be a convert to Audible!

Written With Great Love.
This series is lovely, that's the best thing I can say about it. I expect I'm not the only reader who yearns to visit the Bavarian Alps, as a result of it.
OP's heart and humanity are on every page and that cheers me up no end.
Brit listeners (including me) need to remember that the series has been translated by an American, therefore it is written in American. Annoying 'erbs and all. I'm certain that the US audience is far larger than the UK audience, so whining about it is very petty.
GG is a warm and richly talented narrator.
