About this listen

AN EVOCATIVE VICTORIAN DETECTIVE MYSTERY FULL OF CLEVER TWISTS

Pershore, 1890.

Talbots' Lodging House is renowned for its revolting fare. But no one ever died from dining there—until now.

Everyone who tasted the chef's soup is left with a nasty case of food poisoning.

BUT THE MAN WHO REFUSED IT IS FOUND DEAD.

Detective Inspector Samuel Ravenscroft and Constable Tom Crabb are called in to investigate.

Rumours abound that the dead man has been poisoned—a theory that fits with the circumstantial evidence.

Another guest dies in equally mysterious circumstances. Could arsenic be the common lethal ingredient?

Ravenscroft and Crabb begin to unearth long-buried secrets. But something's troubling Ravenscroft.

CAN THEY SOLVE THE CASE BEFORE THE PAST DESTROYS THE PRESENT?

Perfect for fans of M.R.C. Kasasian, E.S. Thomson, Oscar DeNuriel or Karen Charlton

Disappointing

Not the best in the series or the most credible. Ravenscroft seems to go from being 100% convinced about the identity of the killer to being 100% wrong to being 100% convinced that someone else is the the killer, then 100% wrong, then someone else… it all gets a little tiresome. Also, the book and the narration need a good editor. During Ravencroft’s conversation with a former colleague he seems to be talking to himself!

Not the best Ravencroft Mystery

It’s almost like Ravenscroft is a Jekyll n Hyde character. One book he’s clever and insightful but in others such as this book he blunders around, just banging his head against walls and doors hoping something will give! This book was particularly frustrating when it comes to protagonist- he blunders around, flinging wild accusations at potential suspects and shouting at them till they threaten legal action or break down and plead innocence. Proof and evidence be damned. It’s a wonder how he ever solves this case
