Summary
A little about myself
I was born in 1964 in Prince George British Columbia on December 18. My biological father was a nice guy when he was not drinking. My mother and he had a very rocky relationship. She left him when I was 8 years old. About three months after they broke up, she found the love of her life, Al Thun. He had just moved from Vancouver and bought the National hotel.
After about three months of being away from my biological father, my dad Al tracked her down (anybody can be a sperm donor, but the man who raises you and puts up with all your crap is dad). My mother was very smitten with him and agreed to go out on a date with him. My dad was born in Prague, Czechoslavakia. His family moved to Vancouver when he was 2 years old. My dad came from a very astute family. They had royal titles. My dad was a Duke.
When my parents met, my dad was going through a divorce from his first wife in Vancouver. They were trying to keep everything on the down-low until it was finalized. My dad had a cousin from back in the homeland that was sick and tired of always being in the limelight. His handle was Crown Prince of Bohemia, Johann Reichsgraf Von Thun Und Hohenstein. He flew to Prince George with his Lear jet, parked it at the Prince George airport, and stayed at my dad's house for three months. While he was there, he painted the inside of my dad's whole house (he loved painting, it relaxed him). While the Prince was in town, my mom would hang out with him and dad. One night while they were out at the Vienna Schnitzel restaurant, the local newspaper showed up. They had figured out that there was a real live Prince in town. Just like that, my mom and dad and the Prince were on the front page of the newspaper. So much for keeping the budding relationship on the down-low.
I started working at the hotel when I was 8 years old. I wrote my first book on growing up there while my parents worked there full time as well. In the book, there are a lot of colorful stories about the hotel. These stories are about my life in general, not to do with the stories I have already written to do with the hotel or either of the other two books that I have written. They are not in any particular order, just as they come to mind. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I did living through them.
