THE NEW CAUTIONARY TALE OF OBSESSION, LOVE, JEALOUSY AND DECEPTION FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF OUR HOUSE AND THE OTHER PASSENGER

Wrong time. Wrong place. Wrong man.

Alex lives a comfortable life with his wife Beth in the leafy suburb of Silver Vale. Fine, so he’s not the most sociable guy on the street, he prefers to keep himself to himself, but he’s a good husband and an easy-going neighbour.

That’s until Beth announces the creation of a nature trail on a local site that’s been disused for decades and suddenly Alex is a changed man. Now he’s always watching. Questioning. Struggling to hide his dread . . .

As the landscapers get to work, a secret threatens to surface from years ago, back in Alex’s twenties when he got entangled with a seductive young woman called Marina, who threw both their lives into turmoil.

And who sparked a police hunt for a murder suspect that was never quite what it seemed. It still isn’t.

No one else could have done it. Could they?

A Good Thriller

At the beginning, it took me a while to figure out what the book was going to be all about, but became quite engaging once it got going, then very fast moving and more complicated towards the end with many excellent twists that lead to the whole story being seen in a new light. Not the ubiquitous domestic drama, it's much better than that. To get into the plot, I'd recommend that the listener pays attention to the Nature Trail, and the geography around it. That is going to be key.
We alternate between timelines; "present" and 1995. As listeners we know the two timelines are going to come together and we find ourselves speculating exactly how, That is part of the suspense.
It's one of those books in which at least one of the characters isn't who we thought they were and people hiding their identity under an alternative name, so I had to concentrate to follow at times.
In outline, somebody is murdered, and somebody else is being framed for that murder...then there's another murder Well worth persevering with if you struggle with the beginning of the book. Recommended.

Really enjoyed it until the end

Really disappointed and saddened by the end but the rest of the book was fantastic. Would have given it a 5 if not for this.

Wow.

Loved it, so many twists kept me guessing. Louise Candish is a new author to me. But I'll definitely be getting more of her books. Fantastic audio by Jamie Parker. I'd highly recommend this.

Great listen

Narration really good

I did get a little confused in some parts with the jumping back and forth between time lines, but that’s nothing new for me and not a criticism of the book.

Super happy I pre ordered!
