About this listen
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you suddenly looked into the eyes of your handsome ex-boyfriend at a romantic wedding in Rome...far away from your husband?
Helen is almost 40, and her boobs are starting to go south. She's also happily married to Mark. But why, then, can't she stop staring at ex-fiancee Rob's big blue eyes from the minute she finds him on Facebook? And why does she agree to go to a mutual friend's wedding in Rome - accompanied by her very loud and touristy mom and even louder gin-and-tonic drinking friend, Lori - when she knows he will be there?
It can only mean one thing: trouble. Things don't get less complicated when Helen finds out that Mark is going on a business trip with his perfect ex-girlfriend (with perfect perky boobs) at the same time somewhere in Germany. Or when he suddenly shows up in Rome unannounced.
A fun, warmhearted, and compelling story, The One That Got Away is a novel about a lot of what if's, how we often take love for granted, and how life doesn't always have to be picture perfect. If you love a fast-paced story with snappy dialogue and lots of humor and heart, this is the book for you.

Good Humor & Great Dialogue!!!
I found, "The One That Got Away" to have GREAT DIALOGUE and very FUNNY HUMOR to it. Charlotte Roth took an average housewife Helen; who's feeling a little in a rut, now that her two teens don't need her as much. She feels more inadequate when she learns her husband's ex-girlfriend is a working mom, who's working with him on a project.
Helen has the opportunity to attend a wedding/class reunion in Rome with her crazy, loud-mouth best friend Lori and both their mothers, she hopes to find herself again or the one that truly got away since her ex-fiancè will be there too.
Brenda Scott Wlazlo performance as the narrator deserves a STANDING OVATIONS 👏👏 and more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s.
This was my 1st time experiencing her EXTRAORDINARY TALENTS that was OUT of THIS WORLD. Ms. Wlazlo had GREAT CONTROL with both female and male voice tones.
I'm sure many would enjoy listening to this audiobook. I'm definitely sure that many will get great pleasure hearing Ms. Wlazlo portraying the different characters especially, the best friend Lori.

Romantic Comedy
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is a romantic comedy that I listened to on audio narrated by Brenda Scott Wlazlo.
I love Charlotte’s books! She does an amazing job pulling you into the story. I cannot wait to dive into more of her books.

Really liked this!
I have read books from Charlotte Roth before and really liked them so I knew I would probably like this, and I really did!
I felt that the story was very relatable and very true, especially about social media, and people highlighting their perfect lives, but is it all really that perfect behind the camera of the photos? It also highlights the insecurities we may have as we reach a certain age of life.
This was a book full of ‘What if’s’ but also the realisation that you may have just lost your way and already have a fantastic life and family.
I thought this was a beautiful romantic book

The One That Got Away
I think at some point we all have that one that we wonder what if. Helen does and her friend Lori is no help, pushing her into situations that a good friend should never do. Knowing Helen's Ex is attending the wedding of a mutual friend Lori encourages Helen to go with her. The story is fun and funny. Lori is always into something and so is Helen's mom. The characters Helen meets in Rome are fantastic and really make the story special. I love the Roman Lady GaGa she gives some of the best advice! Great narration she made the story come to life an easy quick listen. Thanks Audiobook Obsession for the recommendation.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.....
Can I just say Charlotte Roth takes us on a journey I never wanted to go on! We take a look at the what ifs, the possibilities and the wondering of what could have happened if you ended up with the one that got away. I think we've all thought about an ex at one point or another and wondered... what if. Or we might just snoop on their current lives through social media... again wondering. While I'm incredibly content in my life, I get the wandering thoughts. This is one of those books that really touched me... we take our love ones for granted. We just assume they'll always be there. Perhaps we dont treat them the best and just assume they'll always be there. The One That Got Away gives us a realistic look at those wandering thoughts.
I have never listened to the narrator, Brenda Scott Wlazlo, previously but I enjoyed her voice. This is kind of a tough audiobook with just one narrator. There's characters across ages, and sexes, there are accents as well as various emotions. But I really feel as though Brenda Scott Wlazlo captured the feelings with just her voice very well.

Interesting but something was amiss for me
This story was funny and reliable at times but unfortunately wasn’t really for me. Something was missing or something was bothering me, can’t say exactly what but it was there.
Not sure if it’s because I had some problems with the narrator’s voice as in a bit either high pitch or just not making me feel invested into the story, I really don’t know.
Overall it’s an interesting story and I liked how real it felt as a woman at a similar age nowadays and what the society expect from us and how we can get to doubt Everything around us.

The one that got away
Both Charlotte Roth and Brenda Scott Wlazlo are new to me but that won’t stop me from looking for more of their work in the future. I greatly enjoyed this book it was funny and sassy and the narrator had great timing to bring it all together. We all play that game of what if and this is a comedic of giving us the answer.

What Could Have Been Or Is
Helen’s invitation to a wedding in Rome has her reconsidering her life choices both personally and professionally. Although she loves her husband and her children, she wonders what she gave up when it comes to her career as an architect when she chose to stay home with her family and she also wonders about her first love who will also be at the wedding.
This is a touching story of self-reflection where she must decide if what could have been would have been better than the life she created and she must decide what is truly important. I loved all the characters as their imperfections only made them that much more relatable and I think this is something a lot of people can understand as they wonder what if.
I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job of bringing both the humor and emotion of this story to life. 🎧AudiobookObsession

I enjoyed it
Charlotte Roth has easily become one of my must read author as she write these captivating stories that suck you in right from the start, and The One That Got Away was no exception. This novel was gripping and emotional and will have you hanging on to every word. Its a story about finding yourself and realising that the grass is not always greener on the other side. You will love these likable and relatable main characters and the secondary characters all greatly added to the novel. This was a clean story with lots of feeling, interesting characters, some drama and some comic relief. It was a well-written story and I enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this novel to all lovers of contemporary romance.
I listened to the Audible version of this novel narrated by Brenda Scott Wlazio. She did a marveloous job with these characters, infusing the right about of emotions into the story. Her voice was clear and understandable and she brought the story to life. It was a pleasure listening to her narrate this novel.

This is one of those books!
You know that feeling. The one where you see people you used to know on facebook, and you wonder how different life would be if. The what if game is a dangerous thing and now Helen is playing it. Charlotte Roth has exquisitely mastered this story with the exact way we all feel. If you had that second chance with the first love of your life, would you take it? I loved this story from start to finish. Helen escapes to Rome, knowing her first love who she has unresolved issues with would be there. She is not particularly unhappy at home, but that niggling feeling is there wondering if she missed out on something. With her husband working with his ex, she makes the decision to go and now seeing Rob, she is stuck between that rose colored memory of what life could have been and what life is. Reality checks in, life is hard, and we all have moments like this of wonder. To be able to escape in a book like this gives us that chance to reflect on how good things really are, and history is just that! And the best is we get to do this with Roth's humor and emotions, the perfect listen.
This is my first listen by Brenda Scott Wlazlo and I really enjoyed her voice. She easily picked up on the numerous accents and characters, and I loved it. She really pulls us in, gives us all the feels and makes this a great listen.
