Editor reviews

These beautifully narrated selections from the King James Version are peppered with classical music selections from the Naxos catalogue. Production, performances, and editing are top-notch. Featuring an ensemble of four actors, all are high caliber, and give careful thoughtful interpretations. Michael Sheen and Josette Simon are especially memorable.

Summary

Here are the greatest and best-loved stories from the Old Testament of the Bible, stories which can be read as much for their human, literary, and historical appeal as for their religious meaning. The selection ranges from childhood favorites like David and Goliath, to key moments in Jewish history (such as Exodus), and also includes some of the finest poetry in the Old Testament (the Song of Solomon, for example).

Wonderful narration

Wonderful narration, however, I do agree with other reviews. More stories please.
Also, maybe break down each book into chapters.

Left me wanting more.

4 of my favourite actors. I could listen to them read all day. Good to hear the late Phillip Madoc again.
These are the Bible stories I heard as a child in school, not as they are written in the Bible but just as simple stories. Now I’m old the Bible language means more to me.

Excellent readings, but ...

Excellent readings of well-chosen passages from four contrasting voices, though I did find Philip Madoc’s voice a bit too portentous at times. A great pity that the chapters are so long, and are unlabelled, so it is not possible to locate particular books and passages for future listening without quite a bit of trouble.
