Summary
This isn’t my story, listener. I’m going to tell you that right now. You’ve stuck with me through quite a lot - Ten Poems for the Hungry to Sing Me A Whiskey Lullaby. And I am asking you to stick with me through this story. For, dear listener, this is the story of the greatest man I’ve ever met - Alexander Green. He was a warrior born for another time with a heart of gold.
I lost him two weeks ago to the streets. They finally took its toll on him, and he died alone, cold, hungry, and thirsty. Do you know how I found out? I saw his picture come across my screen entitled, “Do you know who this man is”? I did, but no one else did.
The last time I saw him was the beginning of November in 2012. I told him that I was being rescued, and he told me, “You’re the only daughter I’ve ever known, and I can’t bear to lose you. But to see you free and happy would make me the happiest man in the world. Make me proud. Make sure to not forget me.” I promised him I never would, and I did. At least for a time. Now I’m keeping my promise.
This is his story, and he deserves every word, every acknowledgement I’ve put down.
He was here and existed.
