Summary

The last thing Sara Flannigan needs is a man in her life. When she returns to her hometown, she vows to create a happy life for her son and to rebuild her life after a painful divorce. Yet when she meets her son’s new doctor, she can’t deny the spark of attraction that heats between them.

The problem? He’s Harrison Thornton, the oldest son of the illustrious Thornton family. His family would never accept a woman like Sara, a woman who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. She tries to ignore the whispers of her past, but she soon realizes secrets can never stay hidden for long. Especially from the man claiming her wounded heart.

Growing up in the rich and powerful Thornton family, Harrison has lived a charmed life. A renowned physician, the last thing he expects is to desire the mother of one of his patients. Sara is beautiful and intelligent, and she’s completely devoted to her son, something that only deepens his attraction to her. He doesn't want a single night of passion, though: He wants forever. Yet there are forces at work and people determined to tear them apart. Even Sara turns from him, certain she's unworthy.

Harrison refuses to let Sara slip away, and soon, he’s fighting the greatest battle of all: the battle to win the heart of the woman he loves.

Okay but too rushed

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, it confused me a lot. The plot was good, but it wasn't really executed particularly well. It seemed rushed to me. It was pretty much insta love, which is fine if there is huge chemistry between the H & H, but I didn't get that with Harrison and Sara. There were also parts of the story that were glossed over and we never saw a conclusion to - the bitter ex, the high school bully and the vitriolic mother. The narrators were okay, although I thought the male sounded too old for the part and too Mills and Boon for me. Not sure I'd bother listen to any of the rest of the series

It Was Like Telling A Story!

Most audiobooks I've listened to have been more like, an actual conversation that I was listening to. Unfortunately with, "The Nearness With You: The Thorntons, Book 1" was more like having a story being read to you by someone, and they would change their voice to distinguish the different characters in the book for those who were listening to it being read.

I do want to make one thing clear, the author; Iris Morland, wrote a beautiful romantic love story. It dealt with real issues that many people can relate to on a daily basis. It has the meddling mom, serious health possibility, a divorce parent having problems with the ex, and finally a couple trying to make it work when there's so many reasons why it can't.

Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer told a very sweet heartfelt love story. I would have no problem recommending this novel to others.

Beautiful story but.....

The story is beautiful and filled with emotions. The only thing making this a downturn for me was the female voice; I couldn’t get used to it and in the end I was happy when I’ve finished the book. If it wasn’t for the great male voice I probably wouldn’t have finished.
Anyway, the storyline is good and it progresses nicely to a happy ending.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The chemistry between the main characters is building steadily and there’s some hot love scenes.

Narrators:
As mentioned I’m not fully satisfied with the female voice and it’s not because of anything other than the quality of her voice. Otherwise it’s read with feelings and has good pronunciation.
The male voice is great in every way.

The Nearness of you

I enjoyed reading about the trials and struggle that Sara and Harrison went through. They may be from the same town but are worlds apart. It was a serious battle of the heart verses the world, type of story. 🎧Audiobookobsession

Stand alone story

The Nearness of You is a stand alone story, though the epilogue does set up for more to come in the series. I thought the story was interesting and I would listen to more by the author.

The narrators did well and I would listen to both of them again. I always appreciate dual narration.

Another great story

The Nearness of You is another good story from Iris Morland. The author wrote a strong story that shows what is important in the characters life . What the heroine has to do to survive. Iris Moreland writes what the human body goes through and survives .

Hero is Harrison . Heroine is Sara .
Sara returns home trying to patch things up with her sister and her mother . She tries to put her life back together in her small hometown but something happy to terrify Sara . Sara finds her son sick , his glads are swollen irregular. When she takes her son James, to the hospital she meets Dr. Harrison is the top oncologist. When Harrison sees Sara he doesn’t see a broken , unworthy woman, but someone strong with a head on her shoulders. Harrison decides to get to know both Sara and her son better.

Jeffrey Kafter and Heather Costa performance was fantastic. They are perfect together. Their voices are strong, smooth and they did the characters great

Decent listen

This one hits me in the heart because I have a daughter and I cannot imagine watching her deal with cancer.

Iris Morland wrote a lovely story about a single mom who falls for her child’s dr.

Heather and Jeffery both did a good job narrating.

Could have been a home run, fell a bit short

This is a typical storyline with one of the main characters being a pampered silver spoon in his/her mouth and the other character is from the “other side of the tracks”. In comes snooty family with their self-righteous ways and over indulgent personalities. So, Sara is the one from the other side of the track. She’s a single mom that loves and lives for her son. Harrison is the man with the silver spoon, still held by his over-bearing mother.

So, I struggle a bit with the story. I felt like it lost that empathy feel we have for Sara with her situation with her son. It went a little more heavily on the romance, sexual side of the story. I think it was a bit missed opportunity to be a really great book. All the elements were there. It just fell a bit short for me. The narration done by Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer was done very well. Really I didn’t have an issue with the narration. I liked them as the characters fairly well.
