About this listen
In The Most Beautiful, a title inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story, Mayte Garcia for the first time shares the deeply personal story of their relationship and offers a singular perspective on the music icon and their world together: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed) to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership) to the devastating losses that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Throughout it all they shared a bond more intimate than any other in Prince's life. No one else can tell this story or can provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince - both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist - than Mayte, his partner during some of the most pivotal personal and professional years of his career. The Most Beautiful is a book that will be returned to for decades, as Prince's music lives on with generations to come.
Written and read by Mayte Garcia.

fabulous! enlightening! heart breaking!
I have read and reread this book and also listened on audible which is a must! I have such respect and admiration for Mayte, what her and Prince went through, so much devastation & heartbreak . It is difficult to listen to at times but it gives you a peek of the lives they lived, the highs and the lows, touring, marriage and of course divorce. My only criticism is it wasn't long enough!

A story of dignity, forgiveness and gratitude
Mayte is generous in sharing her story which is beautifully written. It provides a real insight into the mystical and magical rollercoaster world that could only be experienced with someone like Prince. I'm sorry for their loss of Amir. Devastating beyond words. The strength, courage and grace Mayte possesses is inspirational.

Truly Great Book
Such a lovely insight to Maytes life and her times with Prince. Very respectful, I'm a huge fan of Prince and was a bit hesitant to read this as although I knew he was human I didn't want to hear anything negative but I think Mayte has relayed what's pertinent without being bitter or angry at all (not that I thought she was anyway from what I've seen). They were truly meant for eachother in my view and were torn apart by tragedies that weren't of their making. I believe they'll be reunited one day 💓. Listening to her narrating the book was nice too.

A window into the wife's world?
Curiosity was the main motivation for me downloading this book, if I'm honest.
Having been a Prince fan since way back when, and having been fortunate enough to see his musical genius in concert, I had heard snippets of info over the years about his private life - but was aware that it was very much that - private! As such I felt I was stepping into a place that was initially quite uncomfortable, particularly because the man was not in a position to respond to the contents of the book.
I was surprised that as I listened, my opinion of Prince changed considerably - and not necessarily for the better.
If you are a die-hard Prince fan, be aware you may find some challenging information to try and get your head around. Of course if you are a die-hard Prince fan then you may already be aware of the information , and so nothing will cause you to question the antics of the purple one!
Whether you think Mayte is riding the gravy train or not by publishing this, I felt that her narration came across as genuine, heartfelt and by virtue of the contents being about Prince, then it goes without saying, intriguing.
I enjoyed hearing about the happier times, and was moved to tears by some of the sad ones she shares with the listener.
The content doesn't detract from the amazing musician that Prince was, but it certainly throws a few question marks over what motivated him and how he treated those closest to him - particularly regarding his emotional impact on an impressionable minor (as Mayte was when they met), and then later his 'conversion' to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the impact that had on his behaviour.
Prince was a master of his craft there is no doubt, but if the author's account is reliable, then this is a bittersweet memoir of how
the beautiful ones do always smash the picture - even if it's their own.

Beautiful
An interesting life told with love. I love Prince, and Bellydance so this was always going to be a winner for me, but I believe it’s still a good listen even if you don’t know anything about these two topics!
