About this listen
After their mother’s probable suicide, Jazz and Olivia Moon struggle to move on with their lives. Olivia, an 18-year-old who can taste words and see sounds, blinds herself by staring at the sun, then decides to walk to the remote setting of her mother’s unfinished novel to resuscitate her hopes and dreams. Jazz, 22, plagued by unresolved conflict with her mother and a hidden trove of her unsent letters, takes a job in a funeral home before being forced back into the role of her sister’s keeper.
The sisters’ journey through the wilds of West Virginia, disaster-prone from the start, takes a turn when they meet two train-hoppers with dangerous secrets, and Jazz learns that Olivia holds a dark secret of her own in the form of their mother’s final unread letter. Mistrust, resentments, and new attachments threaten to tear the two apart, until a final bizarre misadventure forces them to decide what’s really important.
This mesmerizing coming-of-age novel, with its sheen of near-magical realism, is a moving tale of family and the power of stories.

Great story and narration
I really enjoyed the narrator’s style and ability to voice the different characters; each in a unique way. A story that took me on a journey of human experience including sadness and laughter, frustration and elation. Recommend.

..absolutely loved this!
Colourful in all respects.. perfect, I loved it.. my type of 'read' .. beautiful characters I cared about.. a story of human frailty and emotions, without being overly slushy, an important mission to complete .. all left me with a warm feeling of satisfaction! Recommended!

Worth listening to.
I needed another audio book before my next credit became available. While I would not
give it the same rave reviews as other listeners, it is definitely worth a listen from the included package on Audible. It is a nuanced and complex narrative in places, although I felt more empathy for the pragmatic and practical elder sister and found myself irritated by the passive aggressive behaviour of the younger one. All that said a satisfying listen.

Sisters and Secrets
I became quite engrossed in this story. It was a good story about 2 sisters and secrets they kept from each other. Excellently narrated by my favourite Narrator, Julia Whelan. The characters were good and were made credible with the narrator's skill. You could feel the angst between the sisters. They were both filled with guilt and both felt misunderstood by the other. One was a burden on the other and one was too overbearing on the other. I like the trials and tribulations these two sisters endure on the tumultuous and emotional journey they undertake, one wholeheartedly and one quite unwillingly, to get to a place of acceptance, openess and final understanding of each other and revealing of the secrets they each carried. I highly recommended this book.

Beautiful
I loved the magic of the descriptions in this book and the narrators voice suited it so well. The synesthesia element was really well done and the exploration of family dynamics was brilliantly conveyed. Really enjoyable.
