About this listen

He was not sure what he had been looking for. He only knew that he had not found it.

Shadow Moon has been away from America for nearly two years. His nights are broken with dangerous dreams. Sometimes he almost believes he doesn't care if he ever returns home.

In the Highlands of Scotland, where the sky is pale white and it feels as remote as any place can possibly be, the beautiful and the wealthy gather at a grand old house in the glen. And when the strange local doctor offers him work at the party, Shadow is intrigued. He knows there is no good reason for him to be there. So what do they want with him?

The continued story of Shadow

Carrying on the story and atmosphere of American Gods, but in Scotland. Loved it. Look forward to more Shadow stories.

Quirky

These Shadow stories are interesting and quirky. Hinting at fairytales or lore. I like finding out more about him.

Wonderful short story.

Neil Gaiman books are always a wonder to listen too and this story certainly captures the imagination. And an extra treat that this was read by the man himself. I had to listen to the entire book in one go.

another enchanting tale from a master storyteller

Neil Gaiman crafts elaborate tales, weaving characters and mythology with incredible craft. Monarch of the Glen is yet another voyage into his world of mythology and legend set in the Highlands. My favourite part about this reading is Gaiman attempting a Scottish accent and failing, but of course it's Neil Gaiman, so even in this he is wonderfully charming. To read Gaiman's work, be prepared to leave reality behind. If you read Tolkien as a child and found yourself enveloped in middle earth, transported to Mordor and immersed in the Shire then Gaiman is for you. Neil Gaiman doesn't write stories, he creates a vortex that takes you to his mythological world.

Superb as always

I liked all of it. Especially the narration by the author that creates , in my head, a more immersive storytelling you are hearing it as he imagined it to be. The pauses and nuances of his narration adding to the understanding of the emotion of the story.
Only criticism, it ended.

Wonderfully dark story telling.

A mash up of fairy tales and reality. Who's to say it's not true? Here's hoping.

Gaiman should stick to writing.

Excelen catch up with Shadow Moon for those of us who read the book before the TV series. However the narration is sadly lacking. While a total genius, who has given me countless hours of pleasure through both his written work and its adaptations to screen, his voice is more suited to narration of children's books.
