About this listen

New term. New dramas. New friendships. And that’s just the parents....

Hilarious and entertaining, The Misadventures of a Playground Mother is perfect for fans of Fiona Gibson and Tracy Bloom.

After a year of country living, Rachel is finally getting into the swing of things. Her kids are happy and content at the village school, and she’s managed to navigate the choppy waters of the playground mafia. Or...so she thought. When playground mum Penelope moves herself and her kids into Rachel’s home, after discovering her husband has been having an affair, Rachel knows she must ask them politely to leave.

The problem is, Penelope never takes no for an answer. As Rachel deals with Penelope, she also meets new mum Melanie. Melanie is a breath of fresh air, but her arrival sends ripples of gossip through the playground. Melanie has a few secrets, and it seems she’s not the only one....

Funny and real

Loved the book; it had me laughing at many bits and kept me hooked. Recommended for all women who have experienced the pain of playground antics (not those of the children 🤣).

Really great listen.

Brilliantly written and a different kind of story. Beautifully read by Karen Cass. Funny and sad in places. Had me laughing out loud one moment and crying the next, sometimes wanting to shake the main character. I would definitely recommend both books.
I would love to listen to her other books but unfortunately I just can’t listen to that narrator. May just read them when on holiday.

How awful Penelope is

Really enjoyed these books. But why is Rachel so weak? Surely no-one can be so soft.

Great book terrible narrator

I loved the 3 chapters I listened to and would have loved to have listened to the complete book but the narrator was sending me to sleep with her monotone reading.
Ended up returning title as I tried so many times to listen but turned off after a short time due to narration.

Humour

I loved this book as much as the first one in series. Very well written & lots of humour.
I liked the way the narrator told the story as it was bought to life

I could SCREAM about Penelope 🤬

I’m reviewing ahead of finishing…….if I actually finish because I’m so incensed by Rachel’s doormat tendencies with bloody Penelope.

From the first book, Rachel absolutely over endured Penelope’s appalling attitude and behaviour, which went far beyond testing the bounds of any friendship…….which it surely isn’t. I’ve now realised Rachel is an enabler and must quite frankly, put up or shut up!

This second book is a continuation of the whole sorry story, which is one of Rachel’s recounting of the events surrounding Penelope and her weak philandering husband and the appalling behaviour they have subject her to. ENOUGH!!!!!!

I don’t think Jesus could even forgive this pair. When will Rachel grow a pair and say enough is enough? ……as I’m still listening, Penelope has just slapped Rachel’s face covering up for herself and Rachel didn’t even object 😡🤬🤬🤬 This isn’t a farce, comedy or funny any longer. It’s completely absurd. My patience is almost finished.

This could’ve been so much better, and I pity Karen Cass (who is brilliant)getting stuck with this infuriating offering.

Disappointing. If you have a very high tolerance for injustice and appallingly behaved people, fill your boots! If not, scroll on very quickly!
