Summary
If you see his reflection it's already too late....
The gripping new crime novel from global thriller writing phenomenon Lars Kepler.
Seventeen-year-old Jenny is abducted in broad daylight and taken to a dilapidated, isolated house where she is chained and caged along with several other girls. Their captor is unpredictable and as wily as he is cruel: he foils every one of their desperate attempts to escape...and once caught they rarely survive their punishment.
Five years later, Jenny is found dead in a public park, and the police are scrambling to find a lead among the scant evidence. But Detective Joona Linna realizes that this murder has an eerie connection to a death that was declared a suicide years before. And now when Mia, a 17-year-old orphan, goes missing, it becomes clear to Joona that they are dealing with a serial killer - and the murderous rampage has just begun.
As the police close in on the killer, Mia and her fellow captives are plunged into ever greater danger, and Joona finds himself in a seemingly impossible race against time to save their young lives.

The narrator is awful!
Why do so many thrillers use this old man with no tone or characters. EVERYONE sounds like they’re in their 70s. I find the only way to deal with his monotone is to listen at x1.2. Story was good and I’ll try more .

Not as good
I've listened to the rest of the series but this one just didn't grip me. I think it is likely because of the narrator. I do know he reads well but his voice is just the wrong voice and it is distracting. He sounds to be in his 70s and he's voicing 18 year old women and other younger characters. It just doesn't work. I think the book needed more editing too, maybe 90 mins too long.
I had to really make myself keep listening, I try to support authors I like because it's a difficult business these days but it really is time for a new narrator, no matter how talented, he's just the wrong person for this series now.

Simply exceptional.
Story, narrating, the chills; all top notch and as expected from Kepler and Saul Reichlin.
Always exciting when old characters make an appearance, and the insinuation of another book at the end had my heart throbbing c:

Disappointing
After enjoying the first seven Joona Linna books I was looking forward to No. 8 of the series...
It is one of if not the most brutal book I've read/heard so far. One sick atrocity follows the next, interrupted only with some long-threaded passages.
Had it not been for the excellent performance of Saul Reichlin, I would have abandoned the book. But hope dies last, so I hit the 'fast forward button' a couple of times until - finally - towards the end it got interesting again. I very much hope, that the authors will return to the quality of their first volumes!

Lost the plot
I've enjoyed all the books in this series. This one is just mental - the author must have written it for a joke, because that's the only reason I can think of for some of the things that happen.
I'm not sure there is a plot, lost or not.
Maybe I'm getting old. but this has convinced me it's time to switch to cozy mystereis. But not until I've wasted my time and money seeing if the next book is any better.
I'll give them another chance, but it will be the last chance.

Persevered but sadly narration was woeful !!
The book had promise, though very violent in places, but the narration was awful.. it was set in Sweden and read by someone with an upper class English accent 🤷♀️..why??? It could’ve been more fast paced except it dragged for the majority of the first 3 quarters of the book (I ended up skipping through the chapters!!)..sorry it couldn’t have been a better review but honestly narrators can make or break a good story!!!

The narrator made this book unfinishable
I just could not make it to the end, the story telling was dull. The story just was not very gripping either.

Bizarre
Totally disjointed story interspersed with terribly graphic gratuitous descriptions of torture and killings which almost want you to turn off. In the end I did. The narration is in King’s English by an older gentlemen which makes every character sound the same, even teenage girls. Very strange. I have never reviewed a book before but I’m compelled to dissuade anyone from buying this.

Badly read. Lots of detail that adds nothing to the story
Why Audible uses Saul Reichlin to read books is a mystery. He has a male voice and a female voice. If two characters of the same sex have a conversation you have to guess what id going on. The book itself has a lot of violence which adds nothing to the story. Violent porn
