About this listen

She’ll never forget … I’ll never forgive. People always notice my daughter, Isobel. How could they not? Incredibly beautiful ... until she speaks. An unsettling, little-girl voice, exactly like a child’s, but from the mouth of a full-grown woman. Izzie might look grown-up, but inside she’s trapped. Caught in the day it happened … the day that broke her from within. Our family fell apart that day, and we never could pick up the pieces …©2018 Lucy Dawson (P)2018 Bolinda Publishing Psychological Suspense Fiction Exciting Scary

Outstanding Gripping Characters and Narration

Memory is a greatly well written book but what makes the audiobook come to life is the narration, here Claire has brought each individual character to life, her range of voice and regional accents is fantastic keeping your ears tuned in to the book all the way through.

The story is well constructed, each character is depicted in depth, there is a nice unexpected sinister twist towards the end which finishes it all of nicely.

It’s not a supernatural thriller as described in other reviews although there are small references to voodoo dolls, symbols and the occult, it’s not the emphasis of the story.

Family secrets, life changing event, friendship, deep genuine love, fear, gossip, jealousy, all the ingredients which make for a gripping listening experience.

I really enjoyed this one, there were no zoning out moments during listening, I had to rewind if I wasn’t paying full attention to listening as I didn’t want to miss any of it.

Full five stars from me.

Hooked from the very beginning

Wonderful story telling by the narrator. So many twists. Sad and scary at times. I was fully immersed in the story.

The Memory

A good narrator telling a drawn out story. It's quite predictable. Not sure characters are believable except for Claire.

Found this rather boring but stuck with it

A decent enough story but felt very long, drawn out and rather pointless. I suppose the issue with this book is that for me at least, it didn’t make me care about anyone or anything described. I just wanted to get to the end and move on. Possibly, the narrator did nothing to help as, whilst she read well, her range of voices was limited and everyone sounds alike. I also found some of her voices very irritating!

Keeps you guessing until the end.

This story was full of suspense - not only within the story, but within the style as well- ghost story? supernatural? dysfunctional families? unrequited love? A very good listen! Incredibly well written. Beautifully narrated.

Quite a good story, but…

I liked the story, and it was worth a listen, however, I really couldn’t like any of the characters. I found them all quite pompous. This could be more of a “me” problem because I like to be able to get involved and root for the characters. Worth a listen.

Unexpected Good Read

Wasn't expecting much from this book as I bought it from the Daily Deal and to be honest I have not had a great experience from that. However, from the start this story caught my imagination and I was hooked. Loved the characters who were all flawed to a greater or lesser degree. The plot depicts the consequencies of the decisions we make and the kids we tell which at times are devastating intentionally or not. Lovely misleading plot too. This is also a love story of sorts but not in the romantic sense. For me the narration was spot on. Would certainly recommend.
