About this listen
New York City, New York.
Meet Augustus Berrycloth-Young - fop, flaneur, and Englishman abroad - as he chronicles the Jazz Age from his perch atop the city that never sleeps.
That is, until his old friend Thomas Nightingale arrives, pursuing a rather mysterious affair concerning an old saxophone - which will take Gussie from his warm bed, to the cold shores of Long Island, and down to the jazz clubs where music, magic, and madness haunt the shadows...
Discover why this incredible series has sold over two million copies around the world. If you're a fan of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams - don't panic - you will love Ben Aaronovitch's imaginative, irreverent and all-round irresistible novels.

Excellent novella
I loved the peep into a pre-war Nightingale. Kobna Holbrook-Smith is, as always, excellent in his story telling and Ben Aaronovitch has once again been great in expanding the ever growing River of London wider world. I always want to keep listening to these stories, well worth a listen!

Inventive and enchanting
Great story beautifully narrated. Took me a few minutes to adjust to Kobna’s accent for Gussie , but he brings such depth to the story that thus faded and I was drawn in rapidly to this fun tale.

The detail and the characters in the story.
The only criticism I would have is I would have liked more of it. The story telling and characters portrayed were brilliant as always.

Absolutely loved it!!!
An absolutely charming and fun magical homage to Bertie Wooster, set to the sultry backdrop of 1920s Harlem. No Peter, but I loved the new characters and getting to glimpse The Nightingale in the past. I hope we'll get more of Gussy, Lucy, Maurelle and Oriande in future installments!

empathic take on love that dares not speak
charming and thoughtful with a dash of frivolity. Fresh new characters take a dance through the harsh American Jim crow laws and their casual cruelty

Hmmmmm
I will have to listen again but I think I wasn’t as invested with the main character as I have been in the past.
Love Nightingale and the links to Molly and the Folly but just didn’t quite hook me in as all others.
Saying all this I did enjoy it and will re listen I’ve just enjoyed the others a smidge more.

Welcome Back Thomas
A wonderful Novello from Ben. I loved learning more about Thomas in his younger years before Etisburg. Kobna as always your voice brings this world to life and I never tire of hearing the characters who inhabit it. I will of course have to go back now and listen to the rivers all over again. Don’t keep us all waiting Ben for the next instalment.
