About this listen
New York City, New York.
Meet Augustus Berrycloth-Young - fop, flaneur, and Englishman abroad - as he chronicles the Jazz Age from his perch atop the city that never sleeps.
That is, until his old friend Thomas Nightingale arrives, pursuing a rather mysterious affair concerning an old saxophone - which will take Gussie from his warm bed, to the cold shores of Long Island, and down to the jazz clubs where music, magic, and madness haunt the shadows...
Discover why this incredible series has sold over two million copies around the world. If you're a fan of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams - don't panic - you will love Ben Aaronovitch's imaginative, irreverent and all-round irresistible novels.

Hmmmmm
I will have to listen again but I think I wasn’t as invested with the main character as I have been in the past.
Love Nightingale and the links to Molly and the Folly but just didn’t quite hook me in as all others.
Saying all this I did enjoy it and will re listen I’ve just enjoyed the others a smidge more.

Welcome Back Thomas
A wonderful Novello from Ben. I loved learning more about Thomas in his younger years before Etisburg. Kobna as always your voice brings this world to life and I never tire of hearing the characters who inhabit it. I will of course have to go back now and listen to the rivers all over again. Don’t keep us all waiting Ben for the next instalment.

Fabulous
Simply fabulous. Loved a story about Nightingale. Lots of fun and sparked my imagination.
Also interesting to learn more about New York in the 1920s

a view into nightingale as a younger man!
it was a cracking performance from narrator as always such a fantastic range of voices, the story was great with a fantastic glimpse into a younger Nightingale and others close to him I am looking forward to more in the future it felt like a real treat peeking behind Nightingale's curtain .

Superb Novella
Another great novella and cannot wait for more, possibly finding out more what happened to these characters. Well written and another great performance.

Magic meets Bertie Wooster
I absolutely adored this story, from the central character who was clearly a loving tribute to Bertie Wooster, to the chance to learn more about the young Thomas Nightingale.
Flawlessly performed by Kobna as always, I sincerely hope there will be more tales of a young Thomas and the occasional cameo by Gussie.
Just so that other people know, I think it’s important to share that some of the language in the book is appropriate to the era the books is set in, but offensive & jarring to modern ears.

Good to have the magic back at last
Love the new characters and warmed to them almost instantly. I just wish it was longer but that’s just me being greedy for more.

A delightful treat
This was a beautiful and lovely story. It made me smile and gasp in delight, whilst also making my heart ache with the truth in what people did to each other just because of their skin colour.

A great short story
Love all of these books, I can really get lost in them, and this was no exception. A great interlude until we get back to London perhaps, although was happy to be stateside a while. Brilliant KHS read with such ease that befitted the NY timeline, I could have been in the room with the characters! He is possibly my favourite Audio book reader, and I’ve listened to a lot!
