Summary

Seeking refuge and anonymity in the cobbled streets of Montmartre, Yanne and her daughters, Rosette and Annie, live peacefully, if not happily, above their little chocolate shop. Nothing unusual marks them out; no red sachets hang by the door. The wind has stopped, at least for a while. Then into their lives blows Zozie de l'Alba, the lady with the lollipop shoes, and everything begins to change.

But this new friendship is not what it seems. Ruthless, devious, and seductive, Zozie de l'Alba has plans of her own, plans that will shake their world to pieces. And with everything she loves at stake, Yanne must face a difficult choice: to flee, as she has done so many times before, or to confront her most dangerous enemy...herself.

Critic reviews

"A delicious urban fairytale, where killer shoes and Aztec myths battle it out with true love and the seductive power of chocolate." ( Daily Mail)

sequel

Great sequel. Really great conclusion to the story - really kept you guessing right until the end. Great performances. Loved the three narrators.

Impressed

For me this was a well received treat. It follows on from the story of Chocolate and takes the listener on a journey discovering how those well loved and familiar characters tick. It is so beautifully read that at times I didn't want to stop listening.

Lollipop Shoes

At last a sequel to Chocolat, it was fun meeting all the characters again and some new ones too. Joanne Harris never disappoints me and this is no exception I listened on a seven hour flight and did not fall asleep! It was that good.

silly story about witchcraft

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book should not be placed in 'general fiction'. It should be in ''fantasy''. A reader who enjoys fantasy might like it

What was most disappointing about Joanne Harris’s story?

The idea of a 3yr old child with learning difficulties being branded a witch. I found this most distasteful.Practically medieval.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The younger woman's voice was muffled and the child's too squeaky but Andoe was v good.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Descriptions of Paris.

Any additional comments?

If you believe in witches you would find this book frightening. If you don't then it is just silly.
