About this listen
When Melissa is made unfairly redundant from her job at an estate agents' office, she decides it's time for a change. Instead of working for other people, Melissa will go into business for herself: using her organisational skills to whip the lives of London's socially and romantically challenged men into shape. Then Melissa meets Jonathan, and suddenly she must decide if she can mix business with pleasure....

Wonderfully silly
I love Hester Browne’s style, it’s always exactly what I’m after for some holiday reading escapism! I’ve always enjoyed the styles of her other narrators but West managed to drag each word out. I suggest 1.25x speed to kick it back into “lively”.

Had its moments, but…
I liked a lot of the book, but it had three glaring issues that mostly ruined it for me.
- Melissa's dad. He was a two-dimensional tyran with absolutely NO redeeming qualities. He was mean just for the sake of being mean - no explanation ever made, no come-uppance ever received. He was so unpleasant to read about and all scenes involving him basically made me want to put down the book and not pick it up again. I have seldom wanted to hit a man thar much.
- Melissa's insecurity. She's awesome as Honey and a total pushover as anybody else.
- Melissa's way of handling Jonathan. I always get so frustrated when the main conflict of a book only occurs because of miscommunication. I don't know if it's lazy writing, but it's certainly annoying writing.
The narrator was generally good. Her normal voice was pleasant and easy to listen to, but some of the voices she put on for some of the minor characters got a bit grating.
All in all, not a bad book, but not one I would recommend either.

What a rubbish ending!
at risk of giving things away, for me there was a clear romantic option and she didn't choose it! I was expecting the book to continue and for the right man to win out but sadly not. Coupled with those dire accents, this left me really frustrated.

A fun read - hasn’t aged well.
I read this when it first came out - it’s fun and very light hearted. I listened to it in audible and is perfect if you just want to zone out of life or go to sleep. Frankly there are better things to read.
It’s very much of ‘its time’ maybe in 10 years it will be a quaint period piece giving an insight to London life.

Wonderful
Loved the story, beautifully read. Not too fast and the whole book. Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Wonderful story shame about the narrator
This has been one of my favorite books for years. I was delighted when Audible released it. It's funny, lighthearted and has well rounded characters. The narrator Lara J. West isn't the best person to read it though as some of her accents, like Gabi's are painful. She also seems to have given Melissa's sister Emery a lisp. She does however do a good, plummy tone for Melissa. It might be my computer but I did have a problem with the story volume changing but overall being very quiet. Can't bring my self to send it back though as the story is such good, escapist Chick Lit!

A lovely funny feel good book
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this story at first as the snooty girls school type narration at the beginning was a bit annoying. But I’m so glad i persevered as the actual story is fab, very funny and Melissa / Honey is a very lovable character who you end up rooting for through the whole book. Will definitely look out for more from this author.

Is this in 1920’s or 2020’s!?!?
Not sure if it’s the narrator that’s reading it like a period drama or whether the story is confused as to whether it’s set it in this or the last century but I’ve no idea what era the characters are from!?
