About this listen
Now You See Me meets Beyond Magic in this suspenseful novel full of misdirection.
Ethan Hayes can do real magic. When he first discovers he can perform the impossible, he's living a normal life with his uncle Sebastian on an isolated island in Maine. Shocked, he soon learns his life is anything but ordinary. After tragedy forces him to flee to New York, he soon finds himself caught between those who want to know how he does it, and those who will kill to keep it a secret.
The Last Magician is an enthralling, fast-paced adventure that will make you question what is real and what is an illusion.

Enjoyable and look out for the twist in the Tale
I guess this is aimed at young persons 13+ but as an auld granny, I totally enjoyed it so don't be put off by the marketing blurb.
A young boy growing up with his uncle not knowing his family legacy It's hard to write more without giving away the storyline and I would not want to spoil it for you
.
If you want to buy it for a magic loving teen or just want to escape into a world of magic even if you are my age then this book is the one for you.
This book is a stand-alone novel but I hope it the author continues with more books about Ethan and his world as I would certainly buy them.
I was given this book free by the author but only asked if I would write a review after I listened to it, it was not a condition of relieving it and I am happy to do so for I want others to enjoy this book as much as I have.

Interesting world-building with cinematic feel
This book is an interesting mix of ideas and world-building that are probably stronger than the characters within it, while there's nothing particularly wrong with them, they simply don't feel as fleshed out as the world itself and it's rules of magic.
The pacing of the book feels quite cinematic, a steady pace until the end of act one event and then it kicks into a much higher gear, on the whole this works well for me, but some people might find some of the later parts of the book to be a little rushed and that is reflected in the overall runtime of the book that is slightly shorter than most.
The performance of the narrator nicely enhanced this book, clear and distinctive tones ensuring the varied cast was suitably presented in a manner that helped the enjoyment of the listener.
Overall, this was an enjoyable introduction to the book's system of magic and world that will probably payoff more in the future if the author adds more books to the series.

A complete, Start of, I feel a great Series
A more realistic approach to magic, allowing you to get inside the main character and involve yourself in his journey from dreams of magical yet knowingly trickery on the big stage, to becoming a magician for real, not just that but one of the most powerful.
Enjoyable and entertaining read, and worthy of feet up and enjoying in full.
