About this listen

The must-listen gothic thriller of 2021.

This is the story of a murderer. A stolen child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted, who lives with his daughter, Lauren, and his cat, Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.

All these things are true. And yet some of them are lies.

You think you know what's inside the last house on Needless Street. You think you've come across this story before. In the dark forest at the end of Needless Street, something lies buried. But it's not what you think....

Compelling, mystery, knowledge

Was a bit confused to begin with, then started to understand. So beautifully crafted and when you think you know...
Very interesting to understand DID, specially in audiobook versión makes it so real, like being on the head and thoughts and feelings of that person, or many persons...
Very worth the listen, very well researched and written

Good story to a point

good book but has a marmite twist is all I can say. Personally I still don't know what I think of the book overall. if it had of gone another way it could have been better.

Dark, disturbing, but un-put-down-able

This is a dark read, with some uncomfortable passages, but it's worth it to follow the twists and turns of the characters. You know there's a reveal coming, and when it finally unfolds it is done with great skill.
The narrator is also exceptional, keeping the story going at pace and with finesse.

5 star thriller, 1 star audiobook

I loved Catriona Ward's previous work, Little Eve. This is even better. An utterly gripping dark thriller that unwinds with wonderful complexity. Ward could well be the next Gillian Flynn (although for my money Ward is the better writer) . Such a shame the audiobook version was marred by such an irritating narrator. I gave up and ordered the book.

Brilliant and original

Prepare for lots of twists and turns with this marvellous psychological mystery/thriller. I finished it in one day because I had to keep listening.

Beautiful, elegant, original entrancing

Wonderful performances add to what is already a remarkable story. This is the best audio book I have listened to in some years. The intricacy of the plot. The gentle but elegant prose and the building suspense are just amazing.

Kept me guessing

I can usually spot the "killer twist" a mile off but not with this book. Lots of twists and turns and it kept my feelings constantly changing from confusion, dislike, anger, sorrow, intrigue, sadness to compassion and back. I have never read a book quite like this one and I couldn't explain it to anyone without them thinking I was mad for reading a book about a talking cat or because I couldn't say anything about it without giving the story away. Just read it for yourself and see.

A beautifully written roller coaster

Please forgive the cliche in my heading but I found the emotional ups and downs to felt exactly so. The protagonist(s) in this wonderful creation will have you lurching with pity but, ultimately, soaring with relief that, sometimes, the human spirit can endure.
I would suggest that you pay attention, though, because I had to back track a few times when I realised that I'd not understood: in fact, I may have to listen again just to clear up one or two things.
Faultless narration, too.

Hard to describe but brilliant!

I really enjoyed this book, it had several interesting twists and turns - some I saw coming, some took me by surprise. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars was that the mid section did drag frustratingly for a short time. But once the pace picked up again it was excellent. A really unique story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
