About this listen

After losing a hand at Waterloo and selling out of the military, Captain William Allen has little to live for. But when he encounters the clever and exquisite Margaret Blackburn, the necessity of extricating her from a moneylender's clutches gives him a new purpose in life.

If Margaret is to remain in London long enough to realise her goal of becoming a published author, William must convince Margaret's mother that he is a suitor in earnest. But navigating the shoals of an interfering aunt, a jealous rival, and their own growing affections for each other proves more difficult than either one of them expects....

This clean romance Regency novella is 45,000 words.

Excellent!!! 5⭐️++

This Title is head and shoulders above the first instalment (& that was good)!!

War, Disability, Politics, Slavery, Female Author’s, a Revolt, and the Ton! (With the occasional self opinionated numb skull thrown in for good measure).

A very well rounded, well written tale. Once again agreeable characters and none gone to waste, don’t overlook the butler!

With so much happening, it was good to see that the protagonist’s actually made time for each other and talked. It was good to see that the insecure one, wasn’t the female, equally good to see people listening to advice given.

I’m a Georgette Heyer fan and, whilst this wasn’t in her style, it’s a worthy contender to the genre.

I was given a free copy of this title, for which I’m very grateful. It’s worth reading, a story with depth.

Wonderful.

An absolutely wonderful book with delightful characters and a captivating story with a lot of twists and plenty of humour. Maria Johnson’s narration is fantastic, she has such a wide range of voices.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the narrator. All of the above opinions are my own.
