About this listen
A bundle of audiobooks Murder in The Manor (Book One) and Death and a Dog (Book Two), in Fiona Grace’s Lacey Doyle cozy mystery series. This bundle offers audiobooks one and two in one convenient file.
In Murder in The Manor (Book One), Lacey Doyle, 39 years old and freshly divorced, needs a drastic change. She needs to quit her job, leave her horrendous boss and New York City, and walk away from the fast life. Making good on her childhood promise to herself, she decides to walk away from it all, and to relive a beloved childhood vacation in the quaint English seaside town of Wilfordshire. Wilfordshire is exactly as Lacey remembers it, with its ageless architecture, cobblestone streets, and with nature at its doorstep. Lacey doesn’t want to go back home - and spontaneously, she decides to stay, and to give her childhood dream a try: She will open her own antique shop. Lacey finally feels that her life is taking a step in the right direction - until her new star customer turns up dead. As the newcomer in town, all eyes are on Lacey, and it’s up to her to clear her own name.
In Death and a Dog (Book Two), spring is in the air. With last month’s murder mystery behind Lacey, a new best friend in her English shepherd, and a budding relationship with the chef across the street, it seems like everything’s finally settling into place. Lacey is so excited for her first major auction, especially when a valuable, mystery artifact enters her catalogue. All seems to go without a hitch, until two mysterious bidders arrive from out of town - and one of them winds up dead. With the small village plunged into chaos, and with the reputation of her business at stake, can Lacey and her trusty dog partner solve the crime and restore her name?
Book Three in the series - Crime in the Cafe - is also available!

I nearly gave up ...
A two-book bundle, these promised to be interesting ...
The first book, Murder In The Manor, was annoying on so many levels. In my opinion, the heroine is a bit of a fool; the police inspector irrational beyond any kind of belief; most of the supporting characters were just two-dimensional.
The actual story was OK-ish, but the 'murderer' wasn't a surprise.
Having many Audible books, narrated by many different people, I usually manage to 'tune-in' to even the most challenging narration style by the second chapter; but not this one I'm afraid. I wondered whether she thought that she was narrating a particularly tense ghost story throughout? It wasn't just the discordance of her delivery, nor the rise in intonation in the oddest places when she wasn't posing a question, nor the sudden drop in her voice to a deep resonance (so that I actually missed hearing the words!) - it was the overall irregular cadence that was so jarring that I sometimes couldn't follow the story, let alone enjoy it. This is only my opinion and others may be able to tune in to this narration better than me.
The second book, Death and a Dog, was better. The heroine is still not my 'cup of tea' and the police inspector still unbelievably irrational, but some characters started to be developed, although I still don't actually care about any of them. A much more enjoyable listen with this different and in my view, more competent narrator. The story itself was OK.
On the whole, a disappointing start to this series and I don't think I'll bother with any more. Sorry.
