Summary

Long before Prefect Marcus Venandus directed the defense of the Jeweled Hills, Green Vigil Marcus led his first command into the treacherous jungles of Ekángá.

As if the jungle itself wasn’t deadly enough, native warriors and shamans strike from its shadows with magic, spears, and darts, while the forcibly transplanted Graeci population seethes with unrest in the supposedly civilized regions of the province.

Deep in the jungle, young Marcus is about to discover how little lycee combat exercises have to do with surviving the Jungles of Ekángá.

"Remarkablle people with tales to relate."

A most curious three and three quarter hours of listening to a tale combining horror, humour and military adventure all in one. The writing is very visual as immediate and real in some of the reactions. At the same time, it is totally over the top. Good fun if the reader enjoys old military style fiction. Marcus was leading his first command when his men are attacked by - a crocodile?

William L.Hahn narrates with clarity and enthusiasm, his rich voice resonant with humour. He does a good job in differentiating between the sometimes hostile characters. My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy.

A Legionnaire Prequel

Having never read this authors work before I relied on the description when choosing this book. I expected it to be more of a jungle adventure, but it was heavy on the military aspect, of a type I am not that interested in. I tried to engage and persist with it but it just wasn't for me. I also found the narrator a bit too screechy for my ears, although he was very enthusiastic and was good at getting into the various characters. Throughout the book I kept hearing what sounded like people speaking in the background (caught during the recording of this book), which went on for a long time. It could have been a sound effect but it was very distracting. This book is not really a stand alone. It works better if you have read the previous books because of the way the author assumes you know certain things about the main character and by the way the prequel is written.

I was given a copy of this book for free of my own choosing and have voluntarily left this review.

Fantastic book and the narration is awesome

I loved it, I loved it, my compliments to the author of this book. The narration is on the same level as the story, it is brilliant at the level of making you feel that you are living the story live and direct. Thank you Regards
Sebastian
