Summary

A man at a crossroads. A thousand-mile hike. A life forever changed.

Keith Foskett was the definition of restless. Drifting aimlessly, he knew a piece was missing from his life. But when a stranger in a Greek bar tells him about a world-famous pilgrim’s trail, the chance encounter sets Foskett’s life in a new 1,000-mile direction.

On El Camino de Santiago, the wanderer copes with extreme temperatures, fake faith healers, and insatiable kleptomaniacs. Threatened with arrest for "not sleeping" and suffering with excruciating blisters, Foskett pushes himself to new limits. Can he find what he’s looking for and make it to the other side?

Keith Foskett’s travelogues have been short-listed for Outdoor Book of the Year multiple times by The Great Outdoors magazine. Awash with vivid descriptions and a cast of engaging real-life characters, the author delivers a humorous and mesmerizing tale of adventure and metamorphosis.

The Journey in Between is a daring travel memoir. If you like indulging your inner adventurer, taking the less popular fork in the road, and visiting foreign locations, then you’ll love Keith Foskett’s transformative tale.

I thought this book gave a very captivating insight into what it means to spend 1000miles on foot on the El Camino.

Easy and Thought Provoking Listen

A very nice and easy book to listen to. I would of liked it to of gone into more detail about the gear he took for the trip but still a good read for anyone thinking of making a similar trip.

It was okay

I listened to this on audio, and I think I may have enjoyed it more if I had read it as I didn’t particularly like the narrator. Very well pronounced etc but I didn’t take to the intonation in his voice, so maybe I didn’t fully engage with it as I could have. The book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I think the story was okay but I didn’t quite keep up with all the characters and I got a bit confused with who was who, and where and when did we met these people earlier in the story. At one point there is a goal to hike around 23 miles a day but this goal seems to have fallen by the wayside and I can’t recollect why. Some interesting interactions though and some titbits of information about the Camino. It’s an okay read rather than a must read.

Part of my early Camino reading research

I'm planning to walk the Camino at some point in the not too distant future when the time in life is right.
Loved this account of Keith's journey...
If I'm honest, the only thing that stops me giving this an overall 5 is the narrator. I just don't think he's an ideal fit for this and I found the voice made some parts irritating and whereas I don't think it would have been with a different narrator.

enjoyable

I quite enjoyed the story and its overall pace. my only gripe was the narrator's over pronounced french/Spanish words(it grated a little)

engaging story of an epic journey

Historic hike brought alive in the modern era to show it still has relevance today. Keith tells a great story of his own motivation for walking the Camino and the interesting characters he befriends very enjoyable listens the ld well by the narrator. enjoy
