About this listen

What if wishes really did come true? What if you were a little girl who wanted nothing more than an imaginary friend with whom you could share all of your secrets? What if, when you grew up and moved away, your imaginary friend didn’t?

After inheriting a 400-year-old family estate from her aunt, Patrice Lafleur returns to her childhood home on the outskirts of Shreveport, Louisiana, to find that not much has changed. Of course, still waters run deep, and the long-forgotten memories lurking beneath the surface of Patrice’s childhood are there to greet her when she walks through the front door 20 years later.

The Journal is a story of magic and mystery, good versus evil, long-overdue redemption, unconditional love, and unspeakable horror. While some memories are best left forgotten, how can they be when the house itself remembers?

As Patrice’s memories come flooding back to her, she realizes that sometimes, things are different than they seem. Other times, they are exactly what they appear to be...evil.

Really enjoyable listen

Great story, good narration (apart from the Scottish accent) good pace to the book, a true good vs evil book.

Another great read from Riano

I read this after reading Mystic Lake, and really enjoyed it. I loved how it seemed contained within itself - but whilst still giving a nod to Mystic lake with the arcane shop and website sharing the same name. (Very King esque). Again I feel that the book hints at a much bigger story that is waiting to be written, one that interweaves the stories perhaps? Thanks again Riano for giving me the opportunity to listen to your work.

Wonderful twists and turns and a well rounded finish

While the narrator is otherwise excellent, her attempts at a Scottish accent made me laugh. It ended up sounding like a person with a speech impediment and poor grasp of English. Eventually, I kind of got used to it. The rest of her narration was wonderful, melodic, and relaxing.

The story started out with things going seamlessly and I waited for the other shoe to drop. The writer did not disappoint! A great, entertaining, and fun short listen of just under 4 hours.

I am fast becoming a fan of Riano McFarland and highly recommend this audiobook.

A tonic for the imagination and quite a good idea.

This is not my usual genre, but I was pleasantly surprised. The book is full of mystery and at times quite intense in my opinion.
It is well written and thoroughly enjoyable!

If you can get past the dodgy Scottish accent of one of the main characters, then you're in for a mystical ride!
