About this listen
Thirteen guests. One killer. No escape.
On an island on the coast of Cornwall, cut off from the mainland by the tides for most of the day, thirteen old friends meet at Tregowan Castle for a weekend of revelry.
By the next evening only twelve are still alive.
Amongst them is a killer – but who? As a storm traps them on the island and past betrayals and grievances are revealed, nerves fray and friendships begin to fracture.
But with no escape and no way of calling for help it’s only a matter of time before the killer strikes again. And when everyone is keeping secrets, anybody could be the next victim…
Perfect for fans of Lucy Foley’s The Guest List and Agatha Christie.

Locked room mystery
What a fantastic setting for a classic locked room mystery - a small island off the Cornish coast complete with castle. Thirteen friends meet there, and a terrible storm cuts the island off from the mainland.
I found the narrative of the book a bit confusing to begin with because of the large number of characters. I kept forgetting who was married to who etc. But once I got into it I really enjoeyd this murder mystery. Ms Castle's descriptions of the castle and island gave me a real sense of the isolation and claustrophobic atmosphere. The characters were all well drawn, though mostly unlikeable! The book is fast paced with plenty of twists and I didn't guess the killer's identity.
I enjoyed the narration by Kristin Atherton.

Very Good
I wasn’t sure about this and any reference to Agatha Christie is bound not to live up to the hype but I throughly enjoyed this. At first listen I was disappointed and expected something quite different but soon relaxed into the storyline. The characters are pretty unlikeable with no redeeming qualities, and a few issues bothered me but overall this was a good holiday listen and we’ll worth the credit. Excellent narration.

I couldn't put this down!
This was an absolutely brilliant book. I read it in 2 sittings, literally couldn't put it down and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved how the characters speak in alternating chapters. Now I thought I had the killer sussed after a while, I couldn't have been more wrong! Well done A.M. Castle, one of the best books I've read in 2021. It kept me guessing, right until the very end. Secrets, lies and mounting tention among old friends, and someone determined to spill the beans, with someone else just as determined to silence them for good... On a side note, if you enjoyed this, I would seriously recommend "the dark" by Emma Horton, also a debut for 2021. There are a lot of similarities between this book and that. A group of people trapped, isolated only this time it's the antarctic, the power goes out and there's a killer on the loose, with no escape. Oh, and there's 13 people there too...
Kristen Atherton who narrates both of these thrillers does an absolutely outstanding job both times, giving the characters their own unique voices and accents. The 2 books mentioned here in my opinion should be on the best seller list for 2021! Fantastic.

Disappointing
The early part of the book lulls you into thinking there is going to be a dramatic night full of revelations and drama on Halloween night - but that scene actually lasts about 2 minutes and is a massive anti-climax. Then the remaining 90% of the book is extremely boring and depressing. Couldn't care less what happens in the end.

Really disappointing
Started off pretty well, but it's soon obvious what's going to happen and the plot is tedious, drawn out and frankly, really boring. It's hard to care about any of the characters. Forced myself to listen to the end but I really wish I hadn't bothered.

Done waste your money!
This book starts off so well but very quickly it becomes so tedious and appallingly far fetched! I don’t usually take time to write reviews but feel compelled to warn you away from this one! Steer clear!
